ants problem
for some reason we've been getting a lot of ants in our apt, which never happened before in previous years. i first noticed it in spring this year, and we thought it was just a spring thing and would eventually go away. it did go away for a while when we went away for a trip too. but now it came back again, they are mostly in the kitchen, but i cant find the source. they appear quite random

Peppermint essential oil.
A few drops along their entrance way and path should send them packing.
Mind you, you have to use pure oil - not diluted with other stuff. I imagine whole foods might have it, or any crunchy granola health food store. Been a while since I looked for oils so can't recommend a specific place.
Bonus for you is a minty fresh apt! -
The combat ant disks worked really well for us. We had a lot of them about a month ago and none now.

Cinnamon! works like a charm and blends into wood. Seriously.

Along with the suggested natural remedies, allow me to add:
Black Pepper
Chalk (ants wont cross a chalk line)
Boric Acid -
...and the most fun way to get rid of them...
MAGNIFYING GLASS!
Actually, I kid. When I was younger I used to cook em on the sidewalks, but these days I have a hard time taking the life of anything....even ants (ok, except cockroaches). -

oh, man, the christmas that my two cousins and i were given 8x10 flexible fresnel lenses....
the ants are still talking about it.
(and so are the aunts. one cousin burned a hole in his pants and tried to lie about it.) -
lol. love the idea with magnifying glass. but there are too many of them to cook one by one. i used a lighter to burn them (one by one).
i just bought terro liquid ant bait, this has been the second day, and looks like they have disappeared. but i'll leave the bait for a little longer just in case.
