National Grid bill insane!
wtf!?!?
so, i've been hearing from different friends for a few weeks now about ridiculously high National Grid bills (the first ones after the merger/buyout with Keyspan became in full effect).
we just got ours. for $300+ dollars. is anyone else on the boards having this problem? and if so, what is National Grid saying to you about it? one friend of mine was told that her bill had been 'estimated' for the past year and that they were just 'adjusting/catching up' and that the next bill should be closer to normal. i don't buy it, though....

Are you renting or do you own? How much was your average Keyspan bill?
...getting scared now. -
Mine is exactly the same as it had been with Keyspan for the past couple of years. I'm on a plan and pay the same amount each bill. Maybe a payment plan would be a good idea for you, too(?)

ditto here.
Plucky--what your friend said sounds correct, and probably what happened to you too. They do offer payment plans, so you can pay a set amount per month. -
my bills doubled since may.

my national grid is LESS !
also to the OP, that shit happens all the time. sorry. it's probably right. but if not, you'll get a credit or extremely low bill the next month. -
natural gas usage in the summer is usually very low
If that bill is for 1 dwelling unit, it can only be due to backbilling for previous incorrect estimates or other issues, or a mistake not because NAT-GRID is charging more for gas than KEYSPAN.
Don't forget to look at the USAGE part of the bill and not just the DOLLARS part. -
yeah, i have to find out what's what with the bill. it was definitely a shock, though.

My National Grid was decently more, but it was based on totally retarded estimates. I just paid it, and I figure I'll have some credit coming as soon as they do an actual read. Whatever. Idjits.

thank god my utilities are included in rent, i just pay for internet!

Thank god we don't have gas. Now if we could only learn to live without the electricity and fuel oil too...

the payment plan is always the best bet. The huge increase may only be for one month if it was the time of year they review your payment plan.
If they reviewed your plan and decided you will fall short of estimated use they will make you pay the balance up front andthen your bill will go down to a level payment plan (which will be a bit higher than it was)
Howdy, Stranger!
