where to find an apartment in PH, minus a broker

We're hoping to stay in the area - looking for a nice landlord, preferably an owner occupied building, 2 bedroom apt. We're a friendly, financially secure couple.

Does anyone know where, other than craigslist, I might find something? We're finding a lot of things listed as PH that are on, for example, Albany Ave....

Thanks!

  • Rapid Realty. Just got a place here through them. No fee, decent location. They may try to sell you on a place that's way into Crown Heights, just tell them you know Brooklyn and that they are not to bring you too far past Washington Ave. I settled for a place on Classon in my price range.
  • Did you find they were shady at all? I've read that they take your last months rent as a fee and sometimes don't inform the landlord. Also read that many of their places are bug/rodent infested. This is just hearsay on the boards of course...but with a kid we can't be messing around with infestations!
  • I would advise against rapid as well.
You might want to check Lionel at http://www.bkapartments.com
he sometimes has stuff over there and there is no fee and he does not "mis- list" neighborhoods. if it says PH it is definitely PH.
  • i wouldn't do rapid realty. they just take the listing of landlords off craigs list.
  • ask all your friends and family if they know of apt's. friends and family are the way to go - or armchair!
  • i got my place through rapid realty but paid a fee.

wouldnt use them again but love the apt.
  • thanks vanilla :p.

i usually would post on here and cl when things come free. surprisingly only 1 vacancy for this year. and one of the tenants told their friends about it and they came and took it.
  • Rapid Realty is so fucking annoying. Anytime I explain to them specific streets I would live within or what I am looking for, they still wake me to a railroad basement apartment in east Flatbush. Then they hustle you into a car and to the next place and you have to be like "NO! I will NOT see another shitty apartment!"

On the bright side, my friends found a dope 3 bedroom in a victorian house in Kensington through them for 1850 a few years back. Anything is possible, just not my luck.
