Anyway, at precisely 5.03pm I was forced to have a bite of a fried shark sandwich. It was awesome.
That was shark n bake. And it was awesome. Aren't you glad I made you try it?

  • Yep...wish I had bought about 12 for my freezer. One for each month. Or the next 12 days. Grrr...

    Best. Sammy. Evah. :bounce:

    Me want more!

Carn- where do you think we could find this?
  • Probably more likely near you than near me. I'm sure some of the local Trini places must have it.

Anyone know a place that makes a good one?

If you wanted to see Carni have a conniption you should have asked for ketchup on your sandwich ;)
  • Ha! She knows better! And she has taste so she would never.
  • 30 years ago hitch hiking up and down the Keys. A dumpy drive in on Marathon, smoked shark and pitchers of beer, I can still feel the water gently lapping around my ears, the next morning.
  • Also, I went to this Trini place that had great coconut bread....unbelievably good. I think it's on Bedford and St Johns.....look for the fancy awning.
  • there is a good Trini spot that has shark and bake on Nostrand and Atlantic... can't remember the name... but its really good
  • What about Jerk Chicken? I am hooked. Is Peppa's as good as the stuff they had yesterday at the parade?

The parade route makes me want to run to Crown Heights or Flatbush every night for dinner. I saw the shark n bake booth, but I was on the other side of the street (curses!)

    I must know: where's a good place???
  • Did a little Googling, and everything I found was from 2007, so it might not still be available, or places might have closed, but...

This thread from here on Brooklynian mentions Gloria's on Nostrand at Sterling Place:

This thread on the Chowhound boards mentions A & A Bake & Doubles on Nostrand off Fulton, though it's inconclusive:

And then there's this Yelp review for Ram's Roti Shop on Church between 19th St & Ocean Ave

You could always try making some yourself:

Looks like Sugarcane used to have a very well-regarded shark n bake on the menu but doesn't anymore.

Not the same, but Ginger Root on Washington between Prospect Place and St. Marks has saltfish and bake on the weekends.
  • let's forget this whole bike riding thing and pursue Shark and Bake.

Some fine choices... Make sure ours serves beer.
  • We can do a shark and bike tour. From one place to the next.
  • we can only ride around that park so many times. When it gets cold, we'll need an activity. Bus to the Shark?

Oh, I likes me the sound of this!
  • I imagine the shops around the Junction are stocked with shark n' bake as well as jerk chicken. Just follow the bbq scent flowing from the oil drums.

    Hmm...activities...

Shark 'n Bark (walk your dog to the Shark)
Shark 'n Fake (pay for your Shark with counterfeit $20's)
Ark 'n Bake (take an antediluvian trip to the Shark)
Hark 'n Bake (take a trip to the Shark in Shakespearean costume)

um...that's all I got so far. I'm sure we can do better.
  • Um... I'd suggest bake 'n' shark 'n' bake, but we do have local law enforcement authorities on the board... :P
  • law enforcement can only come if they share. Some (but not all) get all the good stuff for free.
