Natural Heights is closing / New Retail Space Available

From the newsletter:

Dear Friends and Customers,

Because of this very slow recession year, it is with mixed feelings that I announce the closing of our Washington Avenue retail store. I regret that we will not be able to see you, our most loyal friends and customers, on such a regular basis. On the other hand, the decision to close the store will allow me the ability to pursue some of my long-standing personal goals - such as the completion of a Masters Degree which I have begun this August.

A New Chapter

Natural Heights will be closing the retail location but we will maintain and expand our online presence. With the lower overhead of not having a brick and mortar store, we hope to provide even greater savings, local delivery to Prospect Heights on the weekends, and free shipping on orders over $150.

It has been our privilege to serve you, the Prospect Heights/Crown Heights community, for the past two years. We hope that we have had even a small impact on your life, and we encourage you to continue your support for both local businesses and more sustainable living.

We thank you for your patronage and hope that we can continue to provide you with the service that you've grown accustomed to through www.Natural-Heights.com.

Sincerely,
Kristen

PS - if you or anyone you know is looking for a great commercial space, let me know and I'll be happy to put you in touch with the owner of 688 Washington, the space where Natural Heights is currently located. The space will be available in October.

  • Um... so much for keeping the sale a secret for the most loyal customers for the first few days...

This is really a pity. I really like Natural Heights, Kristen is sweet as can be, and my kitties have gotten really addicted to the California Naturals food I buy for them there.
  • Oooops! I edited that part out.

    She was so fabulous.
  • Ok. I just checked out the website and I want some of that Kiss My Face Olive Bar Soap and the Jason Shampoo - Henna Hi-Lights. :bounce:

Is the store still open? 688 Washington - that's close by , I don't want to order online and then wait for it to come in the mail when I could just walk up there.
  • Yes, go support her! She is so wonderful.

I miss PH. I stopped going after I had to move to the tragedy of northern bed stuy.

Awesome. I'll stop by this weekend.

    Thanks! :)
  • That sucks. Now I wish I had gone more often.
  • oh whyfi where art thou?

Present and accounted for! Orders, sir? :D

Thanks for the support and well-wishing, all. It has been a good experience, and we're none the worse for giving it a good go.

I think that we finally reached a point where we realized that time is probably the most important commodity. Having a fledgling retail store means being constantly tethered to it. Looking forward, it was a choice between slogging it out for a few years or more (with a self-sufficient store as our goal) or we could stop deferring some important things in our lives.

While there is a little sadness, there's no regret - our spirits aren't crushed and this will not serve as a deterrent for our future endeavors, quite the opposite.

    Thanks again.
  • I'm sorry to hear this. I like the little cat that hangs out there, the Dutch door behind the register, and of course Kristin (sp); I bought products in bulk there on a few occasions and really dug the vibe...oh well, good luck to you Natural Heights folk...

I am starting to enjoy the northern Washington Ave businesses of which Natural Heights and Gen were the first I went to when I moved to the neighborhood. Now with the Thai place and Muertos and the Natty Plant shop-oh, the big liquor shop as well on the west side of the street with all the beer-i am hoping that this area starts to attract some storefronts that are NOT salons (nothing against salons). With Hello Living bldgs selling well i can imagine that this will be happening in the near future.
  • New to the area so haven't had the chance to go but always bad to lose nice options like this.

This downturn is only getting started in New York. Wait till after the new year, with the anemic financial sector bonuses sure to come, and the resulting ripple in the local economy.

I hope it doesn't hit PH or BK or aywhere for that matter, that hard. But unfortunately its the not quite gentrified areas that will feel it hardest.
  • sorry whyfi :( and the misses. best of luck to you guys.
  • i used to buy bug spray for my daughter there..
