So whats with this restaurant OBSESSION?
Never in my life have I seen more obsessive discussion about restaurants except on a tourist forum for my country. At least with them I overstand as they are on vacation. Do you people ever cook at home? Its almost as if your whole life revolves around restaurants. I do not mean this to be in any way an inflammatory post I am just curious and puzzled.

Really? I could have sworn.....:scratch:fivefifths(JAH) wrote: Here are my spots:
SMH
1) The halal buffet on Fulton between Bedford and Franklin with the international flags on the awning. Impeccably clean and they have a separate vegetarian side. Delicious veggies of all types and a bunch of different soy and tofu dishes.
2) Bush Baby on Fulton and Bedford. Nice panini style wraps and salads with alot of vegan options. About $7 for a huge wrap.
3) Melanie's Trini restaurant/juice bar on Fulton near Nostrand next to Carver Bank. Again, a whole separate vegetarian side with MANY options and great juices.
4) Ali's roti shop on Fulton between Nostrand and Bedford. Shrimp or veggie dalphourie roti is to die for. Great doubles too.
5) Brook's Valley but I know you already talk about it alot on here. Real good for true.
6) Doubles king on Nostrand and Macon for when I in a hurry and Ali's line too long.
7) Sugar Hill on DeKalb and Nostrand when I wanna get my soul food on.
8) Solomon's Porch on Stuyvesant and Halsey when I want to vibe nice.
As for buying food to cook, my main spot is the Korean/West Indian produce market on Fulton between Nostrand and NY as well as the fish market next door. Both the Bravo next door and the Key Food on Nostrand and Monroe are real good for basics. Bravo even has some fancy things like stock in a box for good prices. I HATE Restoration Plaza Foodtown with a passion.
So anybody got any other spots? -
I've never been to OBSESSION, is it new?

I'm kinda obsessed with breathing too. I've tried to quit, but like eating, I'm kinda hooked on it.

I find both breathing and eating terribly overrated. -
I'm obsessed with restaurants because I'm a fatty. There. I said it.

Ditto.

i don't really understand the question. especially since the information you are culling about us comes from... an online message board. and especially since we're in nyc, which is one of THE top cities in the world for food. of course we are going to talk about it. of course we are going to talk about new/good/bad restaurants we've eaten at. of course.

lol. i wont call it an obsession.
but i have always wondered about the same thing as JAH. there are just so many hardcore foodies here in nyc, who scrutinize food and restaurants like judges from iron chef. and it seems like (at least to me) everyone eats out a lot, even if they are locals. yeah yeah, nyc is a food city. but still. i mostly cook my own food at home, and im not even a great chef. this year i've only ordered delivery once. i would've been clueless about restaurants around here if it wasnt because of my foodie husband. i guess we are just wired differently.
i eat to live. do you live to eat?

I love to cook.
My wife loves to cook.
I'm a good cook.
My wife is also a good cook.
I work hard.
My wife also works hard.
Some days you work so hard you don't want to cook.
Some days you just want something you don't know how to cook.
Life's to short to eat crappy food.
If all the above apply, you need to be obsessed about good restaurants. -
Yes! Where did some people miss that people in NY are busy (and come here from all over the world bringing their cuisine with them) and they've been eating out around here for 150 years.
And there are a couple good places in the Slope of course - Applewood, Al Di La, the other usual suspects. I find the irony is that there are so MANY crapulous joints, and plenty that like the goood 'uns will charge you an arm, arm and a shank. But venture a few minutes outside of the little hermetic Slope culture and unexpected (and frequently inexpensive) delights await. You don't even have to go to Queens (as much) anymore for great Mexican, Chinese, etc etc etc etc............................. -
i live to eat! i love food more than my bf
