TERRY: That was Mrs. Garbato (Rose). She had a daughter named Rita, who was in a nursing home a few years ago and I am afraid to check on her to see if she is still alive. Rose died years ago with Alzheimer's.

Janet Mike from the candy store was arrested for being a pedophile; I remember because all the little girls in the neighborhood were questioned by parents and the police; they closed his store down.
Rita Garbato was one of my good friends from the block; we used to dance and listen to records in her basement all the time (with Linda Wall); her mother was hard of hearing so we would blast the music until she yelled at us. She forbid boys in the basement, so we would sneak them in; mostly Nat, the Fox brothers (Rita had a crush on Billy), Bob H, Eddie, and some others. I visited Rita in the nursing home and it was one of the saddest things I have seen. She was in a near vegetative state but recognized me with tears in her eyes. I never went back because I became very sick and do not know what became of her. -
JANET, Here I am ! I was going to say my mom-n law would not believe what I told her. Seems you saw the same things I did & god knows how many others. Maybe thats why I started going to 20 & 5th to Jacks & Rocco's also.

"I think it will be impossible for me to come to the reunion because we will be celebrating CJ and Evan's birthday on the 20th and it usually runs the entire weekend. Yes, I know the Horans, Janet was in all my classes growing up. I recently found a picture of her and I at a school trip to West Point. She has a brother Robert that I remember also. If I remember right they lived on 20th between 6th & 7th Avenue. Later on I remember Janet became a firefighter and she lived in my cousin Neil's apartment house. We were close in grammer school. The reason she asked for me, Linda Cuba and Beatrice DeSapio is because we were the 4 tallest girls in the class and we were always at the end of the line. Tell her Linda is a retired teacher married no children. Beatrice will retire next year never married and if she remembers Cathy Galletelli a teacher who will retire next year. Amazing Cathy, Linda, Beatrice and myself all teachers. I would love to come to the reunion and see so many old friends. Sally Ears lived next door to me on 21st. street and Tony Mei lived 2 doors away. I could go on and on. I am leaving now for my cousin Andy's Wedding in Mount Holly, New Jersey and will be staying over night at Fort Dix and going on the Atlantic City Sunday. Didn't have a vacation this summer so really looking forward to it. Take Care,Roe" -

(not that I hung out with all ) but Nat , Fox brothers , Horan & lots more. I remember you, shiney dark hair. you would always be walking up or down 20th. Do you remember a guy named Brucie lived up by Janet H. What about Nats brother Billy is he still in BKLYN. ?
Janet mentioned Rita, & Rita's mom (could not hear) I would never think of them and all of a sudden I can see her plain as day. Terry had mentioned the mother on the phone to me and I had no idea unitl Janet put in Rita (nice person).
Back to cooking for Sunday, my husband has been haunting me for 3 days as to when am I stuffing the artichokes & cooking them . They are all brown now. How can I stuff arties when I'm on the laptop

Patsy: I was in contact with Pat Fairchild after many years. I was over at her house about 5 years ago, for a few visits. We even went to Eddie Elardo's to cisit. I then didn't hear from her for over a year and called her mother's and her house and both were out of service. I hunted down Tommy Fairchild in Las Vegas because I knew their brother Jimmy was there. He told me she had died from Hepatitis C or D, I don't remember. Her adopted daughter Cynthia and son Scott did not attend her funeral due to a falling out. She divorced Jerry years before that.
As for Rita Gaarbato, I visited her at the nursing home and could never go back. They had her so medicated and she was like a zombie. She always told me on the street that they were drugging her too much and I tried speaking to the doctors and they promised to readjust her dosage. I am just afraid to find out what happened to her.
Francesca: I will always know Rosalie. And of course I remember Cathy Galletelli. She is probably the last one of the 4 I have seen. Tell Rosalie Hello for me, Janet -

NOW I reach into the frig to get an item and for the life of me I can't remember what the item is ha! It does come back after a few seconds, I guess it gets harder to multi task as you get older, thats why I need my LoriAnn to help at holiday time, which is good anyway because she has mastered the making of a huge beautiful antipasto. -
Carol: I guess we were too scared to tell anyone about mike. He used to let us pick out our own candy if we went behind the counter and then get up behind us. The reason we agreed to this was so that he wouldn't handle the candy himself since his hands were always somewhere else on himself, ughhhhhh,!!!!!!!!!
