Package pickup
So I really hate the package delivery system options out here - they all try to deliver at like 2pm every day and wonder why no one is home.
In any event, I got the 3rd and final notice on a package from Fed Ex and so now I have to pick it up. Any recommendations for car services to call that will drive me there, wait for me to get the package, and then drive me home? It's a very large package so I will need a van most likely..
Thanks in advance!

usually you can call fed-ex/ups and tell them what day to re-deliver it. like, "don't re-deliver until next friday!".
doesn't help you this time, but maybe next time. or i know some people have the packages left at a neighboring business, not sure how this works - like is there a tip involved? but for next time, yes. -
i did tell them ... i get home at 4pm and my fiance leaves around 10am. they said they can only deliver mon-fri between 2 and 3 on our block. meaning we will never get packages.
i just called again and said there is nothing they can do. they can wait until a certain weekday, but they can't change their times and since we both work mon-fri, changing the day doesn't help.
I tried to have them leave a package with someone else before, but apparently they took that to mean give it to anyone anywhere and let someone sign for it who both doesn't live in my building, nor has anyone in my building ever heard of. i never received that package.
ugh. -
Another option: do any of your neighbors in your building work at home? If anyone does, you could just ask him or her to sign for it for packages that come to you, and that way you could prevent all the extra phone calls, re-delivery attempts, blah blah blah. Most neighbors - most people - like to help and would be glad to do it. good luck - frustrating situation...

I've seen Arecibo use larger SUVs though I didn't see any passengers in them. I've only seen them while biking and the cars have the little Arecibo sticker. Anyway, might be worth it to call them.
Their information is here: http://www.arecibocc.com/ -
This is always a pain in the arse. I don't know of anyone who is home all day to wait for UPS/FED EX, etc.
I think a company that did evening and weekend deliveries, when people are actually home, could do a lot of business. -
Good call Lo Kee.
FedEx and UPS are business and NOT resident friendly. I always have my packages re-reouted to my workplace- using the tracking number and their website.
Xlizellx, is there any chance they could re-deliver to your workplace- and then you could take a car svc. home from there?
Good Luck- I know how frustrating this is! -
Besides having to go pick up packages b/c they either attempted delivery when we weren't home or they (USPS) just didn't even attempt delivery, we've had several that were supposedly delivered TO ME that we never got.
All packages go to the dude's office now. Only one has disappeared (re was signed for in receiving but never made it to his office.)
For now, as someone else said, Arecibo has some vans and suv's at request. Just be specific on what you want when you call and get the price quote up front. -
Are all you people retarded? If you were able to find out that they are on your block between 2 and 3. Find out where he is between 3 and 4 or 4 and 5.
Avoid going to these warehouses. They can be nightmares. All I do in my neighborhood is chase down the delivery guys. There's usually one truck delivering and one truck picking up. -
i asked my principal if i could have it delivered to my school and she said "if i let you have personal business conducted here, i will have to allow everyone to do so". I get her point, but it sucks.
modsquad, i'm not sure i understand your point. if i found out where they'd be between 4 and 5, what good would that do me? i still can't carry a 100lb box home from wherever they happened to be.
thanks for the tip on Arecibo! I will check it out! -
get the thing off the truck first then call a car with your cell phone, Doh!

It is not uncommon to see 4 delivery trucks (UPS and FedEx) at a time delivering just on our block so it seems hard to figure out which one has my stuff if I were even around. And there also seems to be very little regular schedule with when UPS delivers here...

The new mail place on Washington will receive packages for $1 and email notify you... How I miss F&B for just this reason!

oh, very nice to know!
i think i've found my solution for this time ... get really really sick and have to take a day off and then finally be home for a delivery.
(as in, i'm now super sick and fedex said they'd return tomorrow) yuck.
thanks for all the advice - i'm going to have to come up with someone permanent... i only get 10 sick days a year. -
Find out which secretary signs for the packages at your school- then bake them some cookies. You'll get your packages- no problem. The principal will NEVER be the wiser.
-
good option, but since they could show up ANYTIME that's a lot of $25s going out the window....
also, my principal is somewhat controlling and will only allow herself or one of the APs to sign for packages. it's gotten to the point where i ordered paint for the classroom but also ordered a printer cartridge from the same place and had it all shipped to my school and then i took the ink home ... and she had opened the box and asked me what i needed it for in my classroom...
thanks though! apparently my super signed for it today so i just need to track him down to get it. he's not home a lot, so i am surprised he was around to sign for it. thanks!
