This crazy guy I just gave a dollar to

I've never seen him before, he's white with really big blue eyes and a bulky blue jacket and was totally on a crack jones. He approached me on St Johns and Underhill with this long story about Bay Ridge and insulin (he showed me his insulin bottle!) I gave him a dollar to shut him up and in hopes that he wouldn't have to mug someone (I know a dollar isn't much but 'tever). Has anyone ever seen him? He freaked me the fuck out, I hope I never see him again.

  • I have seen that guy a few times - if you make eye contact with him, he will try and talk to you - thus far I have successfully evaded him by telling him I did not have time to chat.....

He does have that look of someone who is jonesing....
  • Yeah, I definitely have an eye contact problem.
  • I saw him again in the ss ci ted on Underhill. He was talking to Sammy about visiting his mother. He obviosuly had made his quota because he was in a better mood and less hysterical.
  • Subject: we jut totally saw this guy

we just totally saw this guy on underhill by st johns. we said, "hey youre on a website ! theres a website about you panhandling!" and hes like whaaAAAA? is that a good thing or a bad thing ? and im like, i dunno, its a thing.....we walked into the deli there and he followed us in, and then he seemed to just give up and walked out, puffing a cigarette (so he gets smokes somehow....)

i cant believe he doesnt get his ass kicked or something....walking around on underhill like that...
  • This is a super interesting and very creepy thread and situation. It's a neighborhood watch thing naturally ocurring.

  • I got approached by the same guy with the same crazy "I just came from my friend's house and I need to get back to Bay Ridge because I don't have my insulin" story. He also showed me an orange pill bottle, which is total BS, because insulin is a liquid that comes in a vial, not a pill that comes in an orange bottle. I agree that his "friend" is probably his dealer, which is why he couldn't ask him for the dollar.
Anyway, the guy is totally non-threatening, and overall seems harmless enough. It is kind of weird that we're discussing him.
  • Sorry, I'm Guest above. Forgot to login.
By the way, the encounter above took place on Sterling and Underhill.
  • He is ultimately non threatening, but he approaches people with his hand in his pocket, looking around all crazy-like and he appears threatening. Both Andy and I thought he had something in his jacket. We are discussing him because this is a Prospect Heights website and he is walking around in Prospect Heights.
  • Yeah, and MEAT SUCKS! Nyeah!

    Just kidding. I love steak.

LOL will steal these two lines.
  • Wow. 3 years, 5 months between posts. Gotta be a record.
  • ok, different panhandler but as long as this was bumped, thought i'd mention my recent experience with a guy in front of sea-land on flatbush.

there's been a guy there recently who seems more or less normal -- tallish black guy, wire-rim glasses -- not shaking a cup in your face, not aggressive, just asking for help getting food. despite having lived in nyc for many years and having heard every story under the sun and been scammed a thousand different ways, every now and then someone manages to poke through all that and touches me. this guy, for whatever, reason, struck me as possibly sincere.

i don't give money but i will give food. i went into sea-land, bought my groceries and then bought a sandwich from the refrigerator case -- vegan, wrapped, easy to eat or save for later. on my way out, i handed it to the guy. he shook his head and refused it, then mumbled something about how he'd wanted chinese food.

fooled again. and just when i thought it was safe to start being human again. and the worst thing is, next time someone really does need money for food, i'll probably just walk by.

Yeah... Lo Kee, are you looking at the dates on these things? 'Cause you've been bumping up a lot of looong-dead threads lately.
  • Oy! I hate it when I read a thread and I'm all, "What? really?" then I look at the date and I'm all, "shit, I just wasted 10 minutes reading something that doesn't matter anymore.. damn!"

Isn't this the guy we all know? We have a pic of him somewhere.

    He's a total douche.
  • i hadn't seen a thread on him before, or noticed him outside the store.

    but i second your assessment.
