Brooklyn Ikea question — Brooklynian

Brooklyn Ikea question

Are there guys with vans hanging out there (at least at busy times like Saturday afternoon) waiting for takers? Or do they offer numbers of such folks who will meet you and your goods there?

I have a zipcar reserved but I'm wondering if it would just b easy to walk/taxi over and then have a larger vehicle take us home. I'm hoping for a less planned in advance option.

Thanks in advance.

Why not talk to Armchair I think he is out there all the time.
  • I've never seen guys with vans hanging out there? I think the parking guards move people out very quickly from loading zones
  • That's too bad. It should be like the cars by Target and the Atlantic Pathmark--just do your shopping, step outside, toss your bags into a trunk and head home for a few bucks.

It almost seems like Ikea would benefit from allowing a few man with van folks hang around.
  • The bus is pretty easy/frequent/fast, if you can walk over to 9th St. I'd just bring a car service # along, or Armchair's number...

Saturday is farmer's market day across the street from IKEA, at the Added Value Farm. Look for the white tents.
  • What about for things like an armchair though. Their delivery is like $75! If there were dudes with vans outside, it would be so easy to help load a larger item and pay $20 to get it home. Sigh.
  • I thought there were people out front doing that - delivering and stuff. Maybe that was when they first opened?
  • We headed to Ikea during our errands with a zipcar afternoon. We didn't get much so it easily fit in the car, but we scoped it out for future trips.

I think you can rent a uhaul van there--they had spots marked "uhaul return" near the door and there were a few vans there, so that seems like a good option if you have someone to help you with bulky items.

There are zipcar parking spots near the door, on the ground level of the parking deck!

There were several delivery vans parked on the street with crews of guys hanging out. The didn't appear to be the same company and they could either be part of Ikea's home delivery option or just waiting for folks to need them.

There were several car service cars hanging out as well.

All in all, it seemed like you could take the bus there and feasibly get lots of stuff home, at least on a weekend.
