  • RALPHIE MARSELLA,

Any luck with your photos? Karen Bonavita is very computer saavy. You can call her as well if you still need help.
  • ANTHONY OLIVA:

WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU BROTHER? We miss you on the blog.
  • DAN I believe it was Franny B. who thought of making a cook book, not sure .

LADIES: My sis-n-law is blessed with a man who loves to cook (DAN)
and he is good at it also. Last Xmas Eve I was wrapped up with things in the kitchen so I handed Dan a recipe & a bag of mussels. He went right to chopping ingredients and did his thing and everyone loved them. I married the breakfast man :(

I believe Terry mentioned her boyfriend cooks also. Any other great male cooks out there ?
  • Hi everyone it's been a while, boy has a lot been going on.
Just thought I'd let everyone know we booked the yacht club for next year the date is Saturday Sept 26, 2009. Hope all can attend since we all had such a good time. Max number of people is 200 so contact me, Terry or Fran La Greca to make your reservations.
  • TERRY is it you having a jewerly party ?
  • HI CAROL IT IS NILDA'S DAUGHTER WENDY DOING THE JEWELRY PARTY. I BELIEVE IT WAS LAST NIGHT FROM WHAT NILDA MENTIONED ON THE BLOG :)
  • WELL THANK YOU........ BUT I AM NO PRESIDENT, THAT WILL FIT SOME OTHERS NOT ME.

NOW IF YOU NOMINATE ME FOR PEACE KEEPER, THATS ME !!!
It's a very delicate job,you can try your best to help out but many times a peace keeper has to just close the door. They come to a dead end or never really saw the real problem from the start.

The good thing is they can keep trying to keep the peace elsewhere,
and get the good feeling that comes along with it [-o<
  • THANKS PATSY, Is there another one the 8th or something ?

SO IT LOOKS LIKES WE ARE SET FOR 2009, thats my anniversary!!!!
    will be 28 yrs.

THIS IS LIKE A RACE FOR THE PLACE !!!! HEY! I made A RHYME

  • WE HAD MEATBALLS AND PASTA TODAY. MIKE COOKED IT WAS GREAT. I WILL CALL RALPHIE AND ROSA TOMORROW TO SEE IF THEY ARE STILL ALIVE. LOL ONLY KIDDING HE REALLY IS A GOOD COOK AND WHAT THE BEST THING IS I DID NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING. TERRY
  • Carol, we'll just have to call it a reunion/anniversary party.
If we need to change the date for you let me know and we'll see what's available.

Terry tell Mike I still love him even if he did try to confuse me LOL!
I spoke to Fran L. and the date is fine on her end so I posted it earlier.
  • Terry I'll talk to you during the week have to type 2 reports for the kids.
  • I am reading all these things about the 2009 Reunion. The Yacht Club sounds great again. Having it simple is fine no matter where the venue is. But keep in mind, that if this list continues to grow as it had in bearly 2 months, what will happen in a years time? What happened to Christina, is she not going to be involved in next years reunion? She worked so hard with Terry to get this thing to move quickly and efficiently. That would be very disappointing.
  • Hello

Re: Recipes can be sent to my email:

(there is an underscore between the a (from francesca) and b (bruno)

Equally important is to INCLUDE THE 'HISTORY' BEHIND THE RECIPE.
Your recipe? Family member's tradition using the recipe, etc.

I was thinking of more than a traditional 'cookbook' - e.g., also having it be somewhat of a tribute to our 'families and heritage,' while giving all an opportunity to share recipes. I have some other ideas....

    BUT...

Let's see what your interest and response is...

    Good Night!

ANOTHER TRIBUTE TO PARK SLOPE AND OUR HERITAGE....

I've been thinking about this for a long time. And everytime I see food mentioned on this site - it makes me say 'i have to do it.' And maybe because I just made a big pot of gravy with 50 meatballs, pork bones, sausages, etc...
(TERRY, I ate too much gravy bread and fried meatballs.)

    Back to point -

I would love to pull together a 'book' of recipes from our neighborhood.

We have such a great heritage, wonderful 'cooks' in our families, and great traditions that have been passed down. So many of you are exceptional 'chefs' ---- you know who you are.. We'd all appreciate having this resource and memory.

So why not share a recipe, and tell a little story about your grandma who brought her Pasta Badan recipe from Naples. What a masterpiece this can be - celebrating our diversity and all the great foods of our past and present.

My grandmother lived across the street from us on 20th St in a six-family house. There were Italian, Puerto Rican and Irish families happily co-existing in the same building. Smell the aroma of the different foods...

Celebrate the richness of our cultures.

Let's document it, share it - and keep it alive!!!

    WHAT DO YOU THINK?

  • Loretta - I can't believe that Michael's youngest has done two tours in Iraq! Man, what a guy. Michael and the rest of your family must be very, very proud and thank God he is home safe. As for Antoinette and JoJo, can't remember for the life of me. All I remember, Antoinette was a very attractive girl. She had sought of an exotic look. As you can see, we're having another reunion next September. You and Michael have got to come. Ralph Trocchio and Maryann (his wife) I'm sure will be there. Would love to see your brother Michael again. It has to be around, well, let's just say too many years have gone by.
Carol DL - I guess it is time to put the food on the table!! You can tell the fall is here. People in the neighborhood already have started their fireplaces and woodstoves. Did not do mine yet. Still too warm for me.
Frannie - Great idea about the book!
Terry & Christina - Okay ladies, you did such a GREAT job in such a short time. Imagine now what you girls can do with eleven months in advance!
Judy & Christina start booking your flights from Florida now. Janet, fill your car with gas and park it until September...
Time to Rock n' Roll... :chef:
  • Karen,
Twiggy is involved she sent emails out. I have been so busy this week and weekend. I see Annmarie held a date for us in case we use the yacht club. Dont know what everyone wants. Love terry
  • JANET & FAMILY How did it go tonite ? Was she happy ? how long did it take before her nerves calmed down ?

I keep forgetting to mention , see if I can have Marilyn's email address.

Hope I can stay awake to hear how it was, then again you ALL may go out and party some more.
  • I am here Carol !!!!
  • The retirement party was great and a wonderful success. There was too much food as usual. Russo's was very nice/
  • Danny: from what I gear, gas is still scarce in WNC because of problems with the pipeline. I will have to fill up the rental car in Tennessee just before I hit NC so they don't charge me a fortune when I return it.

Carol: If you're still awake, call me.

Christina: I keep meaning to tell you that you are a sweetie.

Terry: I can't thank you enough for everything.

All the other women on the blog: Brooklyn girls (women) are the best.
  • Subject: reuniom

I havent been on here in awhile, what is this all about changing the reunion place! I think it was wonderful where it was, Terry did a great job starting this reunion. Do you think it was easy for her, she watches her grandaughter all week she did alot of running around, this is not fair to Terry! Have some consideration ! We want this to be a causal, like hanging out in the neighborhood,! not some formal affair!
    Love ya Ter
  • Judy Occhiogrosso-Catalan: No one is trying to take anything away from Terry or Christine. It is very hard to keep trying to explain it to everyone that comes on the blog after a long time. What is going on is gathering ideas for the next reunion, that's all. That's how the first reunion evolved from a house party to the yacht club, through idea sharing, etc. We have almost a whole year to plan, and any and all ideas are welcome.
  • MAYBE EVERY NOW & THEN THIS POST SHOULD GO UP

THERE IS NO FORMAL PLACE PLANNED, NO FORMAL ATTIRE N-O-N-E

    [-X
  • It seems that everyone is losing site of the whole point of this reunion. To be together no matter where or when. I'm sure we all agree that we don't care about anything other that seeing our old friends again.

Festina...can you let me know about the website for the cookbook. I'm interested doing one for myself. You can email it to me or just put it on the blog. [email protected] Thanks...........Debbie
  • JANET - Come back to NEW YORK CITY! (BROOKLYN)

JUDY - I'll see you at the Yacht Club!

DEBBIE - I'll see you also.

    Until next week, TA-TA!!!
  • Hey, I have not been blogging for a couple of days. The reunion was great, it takes time and patience to put this together.

Next year, we should have it in another place that would hold more people. We are going to have more attending the reunion. If there is any help needed, I am offering to help. I think Staten Island is a place that is between Brooklyn and New Jersy (most people are from those areas).

  • This morning, I don't know who I am...lol.

  • Subject: reunion

My name is Jamesy (Jesse) Vignapiano and I lived on 19th Street betw. 4th & 5th until 1978. Ran into Sophia yesterday, and Jamesy Oliver about a couple of weeks ago and was told there was a reunion that I wished I had known about. Would like to know about the one that just passed in September and how to get on the list for next year.

I hung out in Rocko's candy store on 21st street and 5th avenue. Heard his wife was at the reunion. My brother Viggy (Robert) was part of the 6th avenue crowd, on 21st street, near the Laboratory.

I am still best of friends with Robert (Sid) Ciappetta. He's from 20th & 6th avenue.

They had a band in the 70's first called The Beaten Path, then eventually called Misty. (Sid & Viggy + Ralph Marcella + Richie Stump).

I also had a band (Jamesy V) called the Glass Menagerie. I was the lead singer. Bobby Corbett, Richie Muscatello, Tommy Spanado, and Patty Murello were the other band members who I would also like to include in next years reunion.

Hope to hear from you soon about the reunion, esp. if there are any pictures. Sophie told us that her brother did the catering, and what a great day it was. Sorry we missed it.
  • Good Morning: I am so stuffed with NY food, it's unbelievable !! Today I am going out to a Jewish Deli near Kings Plaza and tomorrow night for Brooklyn Pizza.
I am either leaving Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. It may take me another year to get the all the food I had off my weight. I am telling you, there's no food like NY food, ok, Brooklyn food. It may take me months after getting back to crave it again.
I am taking Keilbasa from White Eagle, Cheese & Parsley Sausage from Faccio's, Mozzarella from 78th & 15th (fresh), Tri or Seven Layered Cookies (for my son), Corn Toastees, and Manhattan Special back with me. What more could I want, lol !!!
I am also taking back this memory of all you wonderful Brooklyn people. We did have a great time ( thank you Christina, Terry & Ann Marie & daughter) and will look forward to the next one. I have a feeling that we will have well over 200 people then. Remember to get contact information for friends you run into so they will not be left out the next time. Janet
