Coney Island, the smell of the water, the corn on the cob, the cyclone.
I would like to go back for a week.
Mildred Romano -
MILLIE,
I never saw any of it. I guess I was too busy talking as always. AH!!next reunion. Love Terry -
Maybe we will see each other before then, I will share mine with you.

Hey Deb: You're funny! Yes, you do have competition. May the best blogger win. Gee, I hope Ellen doesn't read this, she'll punch both our lights out(lol)
-
Terry old pal old buddy thanks for coming to my rescue. NOT! Thank goodness for my new Friends,Carol DL, Anthony and Paul.No donuts for you.( the one who eats 5 or 6 at a time)
-
Debbie and the Rest of Us: Sorry about bursting the jelly donut bubble and didn't want to be preaching. Just wanted to point out a few things:
1) Look at the average survival age of people today versus back then; people on the whole are living a lot longer today
2) Not everything was as natural as you may think back then. Pesticides and preservatives were in a large percentage of our foods. DDT and Chlordane, for example, both of which were banned many years ago were used indiscriminately.
3) Here's a bit of trivia. Do you know which fruits are the hardest to remove pesticides from ? Strawberries and raspberries. Why ? Just look at the surfaces.....soft and with lots of nooks and crannies. Not like an apple which has a tougher, smoother skin.....and you can peel it. So, maybe you should go for the apple filled donuts. -
MIllie D. If it was me I'd watch out for Coney Island. Never know whats in the sand. Smell of the water may contain toxic fumes. Who knows when they changed the water for that corn. And as far as the Cyclone... I'm sure a few screws are loose (as is in my head) lol. Everything said in jest... Please no one take offense to my well intended humor. Keep smiling Bob.Love Debbie.

Carol DL, Yes I do have a brother, Peter, 1 year younger than me at 56, I believe he was in the same class at 146 as Franny B and Bernadette V, etc. I was there from 57 - 63, K-6.
Barbara, thanks a lot, now I am turning red, and by the way you look great in the photos.
Debbie S, Is Butchie from the Court St. area? -
Bob.. JUst read your entry. Came on as I was writing mine. I should have sat next to you in school. Maybe I would have done better in science. I know who to go to now for all important info. Now do you think you could tell me who to vote for and why? LOL Love deb.

OK.....one last comment on food etc. I have been going to China since 1994 and I have been seeing some disturbing things. I used to joke that there may be more Chinese but we (Americans out weigh them). Now I see McDonalds and all the other fast food businesses all over China.....and now the traditionally thin Chinese have more and more obese, little round children.
-
Paul ... I believe so, but I'm not sure. I know he has a few sisters and think he's the only boy.

Paul Giglio: Thanks for trying to make me feel better, but I was very sick that day. I have had the worst allergy/sinus condition ever. All puffed up!Hey, I have to come up with some excuse. (lol)

Janet completed 301 miles of her trip home.

Butchie? From where?
I remember a Butchie. -
hola:
Francesca: You are 100% correct about the water in Brooklyn, but what taints it is the lead pipes. -
Fran, are you using microsoft outlook?
-
fran, if you are you need to go to actions, junk email, junk email options, block senders tab, if anything is there from aol please click remove.
-
Nilda
You are absolutely right. I never thought of the lead pipes; I've been living in a PVC world since I left Brooklyn. Great point!
Millie
I am not having email problems, I was trying to help Ralph. But thanks
anyway. (Ralph - check Millie's suggestion above.)
All
I just came back from the shoe store. In the corner, they had hidden -
one of those foot measuring devices. It made me think of Shoe Box
Shoe Store (I know store was mentioned in earlier posts).
Remember you would put your foot on this metal template and the salesman (I recall only men in those days) would tell you your shoe size. I told the woman in the shoe store just now that it looked like
something from the 1950's - she said 'it probably is.' Guess by now you can tell I was not shopping for Jimmy Choos.
Let's hear it for Keds and PF Flyers! -
Fran, my bad, I thought you were helping him on the tele for some reason.
Ralph, hope I was able to help you out. -
Just got a flashback. Remember when all the ladies had to have their heads covered in church. O.K. it started out as hats, then little lace squares or hankies and finally a tissue and a bobby pin. I remember being told that was not acceptable by one of the priests. Unbelievable how times change. Now people go to church in just about anything. I, personally don't like that. I have to say I do admire the black churches where people get all dressed up for church - hats and all! The way we used to. Also, I remember thinking that Sunday was the most boring day of the week. Absolutely nothing to do. Everything was closed except the bars, of course. BTW, does anyone remember a bar called The Swan. It wasn't in the neighborhood it was off of Coney Island Avenue, but my mother used to go there sometimes.
-

Hi All-
Safeway --yes I remember and I was also there when Joe Joe Gronick tried to suffocate his little brother because he was crying. That family lived on 24 street near my house. I remember everyone screaming at Joe Joe. We used to hang out by Safeway to watch them unload the trucks on to those ramps with the little wheels and all the stock used to go down to the basement.
Do you believe Joe Joe Gronick grew up to be a very famous male supermodel? Imagine that!
My mother ran a corking co. next door to Safeway, Mundette Cork. We saw it all.
The bakery on 24th & 4th was Gladys' Bakery. The B E S T cream doughnuts and great rye bread. I used to get extra cream in my doughnuts. Now I'm wearing the extra cream.
The candy store on 4th Ave was Panie's her husband was TOny and his brother was Joe. Remember you went into the store, one side was a candy case and the other side was cigarettes, tobacco and cigars.
The smell was hobbile in there! I have no clue what she was cooking, They used to eat dinner in the back room but kept the curtains pulled open to see customers.
They always drank alcohol while eating dinner so, if you timed it right, Panie would e washing dishes and TOny or Joe would come out and give us extra candy. While doing dishes, Panie would yell, "Hey, don't give them anything. Take the money. Don't give them anything."
Ahhh the memories!
Have a great evening.
Oh, Jesse Viggapiano's wife emailed me a few days ago and said She, Jesse, Viggie, Sid (Ciapettaand his wife want to coome to the reunion next year.
Howdy, Stranger!
