  • Old Goat: I had almost forgotten the semi x rated scenes we saw when taking a forbidden glance under the board walk.
  • I saw in The Staten Island Advance Obituaries last evening that a Matthew Horan who grew up in Bay Ridge Brooklyn has passed away. He attended John Jay High School. I hope he wasn't any relation to the Horan family of this board. I was just curious since there are so many Horans and he did go to school in the neighborhood. Anyway, I hope it's not the case.
  • I am going to Atlantic City tomorrow (Resorts). Staying over. It's my ??th birthday so I thought I would celebrate in a "happy" place. I've lost so much in my 401k already that I might as well enjoy a little bit of what I lose. (lol)
  • namaste:

Warren (Old Goat) thanks for your imput, for a minute i thought i was crazy, u see i was young, and my cousins more daring or i should say full of life. You see they were from the Paladium crowd, for a second i thought it might have been reis (spelling?) beach, but at reis beach they had mucho latin music, but under the board walk at CI i remember my cousins dancing, laughing and having much fun. You see in order for them to go out they had to bring me, i was the mascot. Maybe that's where my love for music and dancing was ignited. Every time i hear "Under the Board Walk" i think of those days, but most people i speak to on this subject do not remember the dancing and fun under the board walk. there may have been "things" going on under the board walk, but i remember a lot of making out going on there.

As an adult, i remember taking my children, along with Pinky and son, Carol at times went, and their mother Anita we would go to Sunset Park, that was fun, sharing a day with friends. We would always sneak in food.

    Hi carol and Pinky.

    Linda Joy, wassup!!!!!

Joanie Red, Josephine, Joann and Sophie: Hola

Ralphie and Rosa: Have a great cruise

Terry: U2 have a great cruise, have mucho fun

    peace and blessings

Barbaraspencer: Be proud of your age, so many of our parents and friends never made it to our age. It's a good thing to be alive. Thank God
  • Barbara, the way things are going in the market you'll probably have a better chance in AC, anyway enjoy your stay and Happy Birthday.

  • SORRY BARBARA

    THE UMBRIA'S
  • Anthony: Thanks for your wishes. Lets hope it's a lucky day. I haven't won in years. The most I ever won was $2,500 and that was a logn time ago. I've paid them back for sure. I'm due!
  • Seems like I'm posting a lot today. (Not to busy at work.) Speaking of birthdays do you ladies remember the birthday corsages we use to wear? They were big bows with ribbons hanging down and they had sugar cubes, life savers, and I forget what else attached to each ribbon. I know there were certain things and colors for certain ages and you just had to have the right one. Imagine the girls wearing those today?
  • KAREN DRITTO

First jelly donuts, now I also see we like Choc. Twizzlers, I don't buy them anymore because they are my favorite and you know what that means.
There is a bakery here on S.I. it has been here a very long time, over 100 years. Holtermans, They make the CHARLOTTE RUSSE !!!

Infact my sis-n-law upstate fondly remembers them & I tried to get them for her this summer but when I planned my visit to her Holtermans was on Vacation.
I will remember you for 2009 & bring one :thumright:
Do you live in S.I. ?

Shows you how naive I am. I only thought the guys were taking forbidden glances.
  • JANET thanks for the pic's

I think I am going to the Seaport this weekend with my son. He has not been home in 4 weeks now so we are going to THE CUBANA Restaurant. Wasn't that dessert good there ! I am looking forward to dinner or even lunch there. I'm sure he will want to go in the Yankee store also.

I am going to try to find my dads address on water street
which is where he lived when he came to the U.S. from Spain. Of course I will take pictures if I find it. Maybe 1930's
  • HELLO MILDRED

MILDRED ARE YOU BABY DOLL MILDRED ROMANO DID YOU LIVE NEXT TO LARRY BOY ON 20 STREET? IF SO I REMEMBER YOU VERY WELL

    ANTHONY
  • ANTHONY UMBRIA

BABYDOLL WAS MILDREDS SISTER Margie, now you have to figure out was it Mildred or Margie. Both nice looking girls.
  • Carol DL - yes I live on SI - off of Huguenot Ave. I know the Holtermann's bakery is on Amboy not to far from me so I'll have to check them out. Thanks!! My hips (among other places) love you!! I haven't tried anything from them yet, but I understand the new bakery (I can't remember their name) on Forest Ave. near Jewett/Manor is excellent, out of this world. I might have to make a trip there.

On that note, I'm going to get ready to leave. Very quiet today so I'm taking advantage.

All - have a great weekend. Happy Birthday Barbara - good luck in AC!

    Karen
  • CAROL
IT WAS MILDRED I THINK I AM 56 SHE AROUND MY AGE
  • Karen Dritto: The bakery you are talking about is Cake Chef -- it's been there a long time and it's great. The best jelly donuts are from a bakery on Long Beach Island at the Jersey Shore.
  • After the hellish week I've had, TGIF.

Margie Angelo, you will never be forgotten. I can still see you standing outside the house waiting for my dad to go work Bingo. You were never without a smile on your face.

Everyone have a good weekend and Happy Columbus Day.
  • I'm with you sis!!!! I'm having a beer right now!!! Thanks to this blog I've been craving a Jelly Donut!!! But because I had minor gum surgery I can't have one. :(
  • RONNIE KAREN

RONNIE - are you from 20th st. ? It's nice when some one new comes.
  • ANTHONY UMBRIA

MILDRED was slim, long brown hair. I'm sure once you tell her where you hung out etc... She WAS my sis-n-law , married Elliot many yrs. back.

It's funny when you find out some one had a crush on you way back, that happened to me on this site "SaL"

  • JUDY GIORDANO B,
Debbie Siciargo and I were out yesterday and we met up with this girl who was helping us.We starting talking about the reunion and too bad the Vanderbilt was so expensive It would be great to have our reunion there. Started talking about ... AS DEBBIE WOULD SAY Where ever Terry goes she meets someone. Her name is Gloria Nixon she went to school with the perrotta's and she is best friend with your younger sister joeline(spell). I think she is going to her son's confirmation sunday. WHAT A SMALL WORLD. She knew all of you. She is going to try to get on here when she has a chance. She grew up on 32nd street and went to school , the polish school on 23rd st OLC love terry
  • OMG Gloria and Jolene have been friends forever...and yes she is going to her son's confirmation this weekend..what a small world. Hopefully she will come on the blog. Judy
  • Debbie: Can't eat donuts due to sore gums ? Try this (no actually don't). In a blender, place two jelly donuts and two cups of vanilla ice cream. Add half a cup of extra jelly. Add a little milk to thin as needed. Stick a straw in it and suck.
  • Crushes: I saw Anthony Umbria's post about having a crush on "Baby Doll" (though he is not sure who she was). Well, as a teenager, let me just say that if you were a girl in my neighborhood when I was a young teenager, there is a 50% chance I had a crush on you. In some cases, your mother also and maybe your sister.
  • Yes Sissy, I had a crush on you too......now please stop choking me.
