Plumber who works on radiators? — Brooklynian

Plumber who works on radiators?

Can anyone recommend a plumber who could help us replace our radiator with a smaller one? Or suggest another solution to the problem of our apartment being 85 degrees all winter? We think the knob that cuts the radiator off is broken, so at the very least we need a repair.

Someone recommended Weiss Plumbing to me, but when I called last winter they only wanted to respond to no-heat calls (not too-much-heat calls--reasonable enough) and when I called them last week, they didn't get back to me.

  • I have used Fast Repair several times. They replaced several of my radiators and installed a new furnace.

If you need a new radiator they will tell you where to go buy one and then they will install it.
  • Try Stanley Lewis. Don't have a number but he's on Prospect Place and has been in the business for years. I use him for my more serious plumbing needs when I need someone who's licensed. If you do a search of the boards I think his information has been posted here in the past.
  • You could try to replace the vent on the radiator with a thermostatic vent. It controls the amount of steam leaving the radiator which controls the amount of steam able to enter the radiator. These vents are adjustable and serve as a thermostat.

All you need is the new vent, an adjustable wrench and some teflon tape.
