Hi Suzie, nice to meet you. I do have quite a few Joey DiLeo's in my family,( thanks to the redundancy of the Italian tradition!) - with some being my uncles, others, my cousins. So, yes, I am related to him, just not sure which one you are talking about, and welcome home!

Judy, weren't we classmates? I remember you!!!!! OMG!!! How's things? Were you at the reunion?
Yeah, John Guzzo is my brother, and I remember that crowd so well, they were the younger 21 street crowd. I remember Michael and Joseph so well too - actually their sister SallyAnn married my 1st cousin, Vito DiLeo. Anthony and Andrew, Russell, Vito Guccione, Mikey Bikes, lol, thank God for Mikey!!! Everyone had a bike because of him! Good to see you here, and everyone, please feel free to add more names of our beloved friends who passed, and have them with us here at our home...

Suzie, I'm so sad to hear about your brother.

    Lv Festina xo
  • Suzie, if I remember correctly, Patricia and Michael they live behind my mother's house. She was on 21st street for 41 years. Also, Michael worked with my husband Kevin when he worked at Atlantic Express. Now he's with sanitation.
  • Hi Festina...Yes I was at the reunion...Joyce Castaldo brought me over to meet you....I went to school with your brother John and I knew he had a sister that lived in Howell so I wanted to meet you. Yes we were the younger crowd lol lol lol (don't feel so young anymore) maybe you are thinking of my sister Laura she is 52, she was also at the reunion. My younger sister Jolene is still friends with Sally Ann, as a matter of fact her husband Vito was my nephews' coach on Staten Island. (small world). Judy
  • Unfortunately we lost so many so young, along with Michael Benc, we lost Andrew Popalardo, Anthony Amato, Casper Cimera (sp), and that was only who were directly in my grade. I could only image the lives that were lost in all of St. John's history.....
  • SUZIE BENC,

This is Christina Oliva Hagin. Me and Debbie Bonavita went to school with your sister Patricia. How are both off you? It's so nice to see you and your pictues are great.

Welcome! I'm so glad Ann Marie told you about us. Hope you can come to the reunion next year. Just email me your address so I can add youl

    Love,

Old Goat In Fl here... While I do not know the people that you all have discussed getting Cancer treatment, I can relate to what they are going to go through. First of all my prayers are with them despite being an "outsider". Late in 2001 I was diagnosed with aggresive tumor Prostate Cancer. I was immediately put on hormones in the form of pills followed up by shots in the butt. The shots were given quarterly for THREE years. In the meantime I had 25 Radiation Sessions followed up by seed implants. 67 Titanium seeds. (I do not need a Halloween Costume just shine a light on me and I glow) While being treated my wife was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. She had Chemo and Radiation plus a Bowel resection operation. That is where the remove the portion of the colon where the tumor was found. They inserted a Titanium tube to join the ends where the piece was removed. (She glows in the dark too)She has permanent IBS but is doing okay 5 years after her treatment finished. Just when we thought we were okay I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Have had two tumors removed and must have periodic. Cystoscopies. (You do not want to know where the stick the tube with the camera and the light to look inside my bladder. I had those every three months for two years and just when they were going to reduce it to every 6 months, a lab test showed a good chance of recurrance. Since then I have had a Lab test that contradicted the bad one. So who knows??? During the same period my PSA started back up after 7 years of being <0.1. I am back on hormone shots, this time in the belly. I am telling you this NOT to have anyone feel sorry for us but to point out that despite the deaths you know of and despite the side effects of treatments, there is great hope. My first cancer diagnosis October 2001. My wifes November 2002. We are still here in October 2008 and as feisty as ever. In fact we are going on a cruise next month to celebrate my 75th Birthday. NEVER give up hope and prayers. The answer to your prayers may not always be the answer you want but NEVER give up! (PS we do not glow in the dark.Just my idea of weird humor)
  • Judy - you mention Casper Schimera - I went to school w/his older brother Eddie (I think that was his name!?!?) - wasn't there a 3rd brother, younger than both of them? My dog (a mild-mannered collie) bit either Casper or Eddie and their mother was indignant, hollering, wanted to sue... My mother (who was a rather formidable woman) said to her I'd bite you too if you were throwing rocks at me but then again I'd probably die from a disease if I BIT you. She stormed off w/boys in tow. She never said another word. Funny what you remember...
  • Karen...I think the other brother was Jack or Jackie...I'm not really sure...Judy
  • Dear Old Goat - Warren - I know I speak for all of us on this blog, WE ARE GLAD YOU'RE STILL WITH US, GLOWING AND ALL. You certainly are an inspiration to all to keep on going, regardless. You old timers are certainly made of some real strong stuff. I think they threw out that material when it came to us "youngins". God Bless you and your wife. Happy Birthday and Happy Cruising!!
  • Judy - the name rings a bell... Thanks!

  • SUZIE!

OMG- I can't belive it's you. How is Patty doing? I just called Ann Marie screaming that I can't believe you've found your way. It's been so may years!

I will write again, I still have to get over the shock.

You probably don't recognize my maiden name, I took it back after the divorce. You would remember the name the bank book was in. Hahhah.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Fran
  • Judy Giordano-

You wrote Andrew Papolardo died. There is an Andrew Papolardo that lives on my block, 29th bet. 4th and 5th. Both his sister and mother are named Evelyn. I remember he was mentioned much earlier on the blog and I wondered if it was the same Andrew.

And one more question. Do you know Debbie Filauri Kane?

    Take care!
    Fran
  • Hi Fran, I am not sure if it is the same Andrew, I went to St. Johns with him and years later we heard that he passed away. I think he was from 29th or 30th street.

Yes I know Debra Filauri-Kane since I was a baby, we lived in the same house on 27th street. I still talk to her all the time. Boy what a small world.

    Judy
  • Hey Susie,

OMG I've been trying to contact you for months. no listings anywhere.I really wanted you and Patty to come to the reunion we had a blast.
Mom and I look for you all the time. How's your Mom and Dad doing?
Give me a call we're listed, we should get together.

Fran did Andrew really die? I'd call you back but my other phone died too!
Damn kids lol!!! Tell Sammy to dig out the filter so I have an excuse to come to brooklyn and bring Mom well she has to drive anyway LOL!!!

    Love
    Ann Marie
  • Terry, I'm so sorry to hear about Donny. I'll call you over the weekend
    I'm praying for your friend.
    Love Ann Marie
  • gotta go kids are fighting goodnight all
  • Judy, a very small world, indeed.
I went to OLC with Debbie and lived on 24 street and moved to 29 street. I am so happy she got the new job and things are turning around for her.

This has to be the same Andrew Papolardo because his Mom knew my father from 6th ave. 21 street.
I see Andrew and his sister Evelyn everyday walking up and down 29 street. I do remember they went to Saint Johns' and I mentioned some of the bloggers names to Evelyn and she remembers many.
I remember years ago, Andrew was a good looking kid and came close to death a few times, he, his sister and mother are still alive.

    Good night!
    Fran
