GOOD MORNING ALL
MARILYN I LOVE THE IDEA OF A MEMORY BOOK. WOW THAT WILL BE SOMETHING ELSE. SOME GOOD, SOME BAD, SOME HAPPY, SOME SAD. WHAT A GREAT BOOK THIS WOULD BE. LET'S DO IT  -
Jeanette LaGreca and Suzie: I bought the stovetop coffee pot years ago in Linen & Things. You can also go on line to purchase it. One web site "NextTag" sells them and they also sell replacement glass tops. Mine glass top keeps cracking so I have ordered many of them on line.
Anthony Umbria: I went to school with Concetta Castagna. Her brother Anthony used to hang out with all the guys from 27th.

Hi Marilyn, Old Goat here. Since #1 my memories are before most of your recollections and they would not necessarily be from 20th Street out, would you still be interested in what the general area was like in the late 30's 40's and 50's? That years, not streets! 8) 8)
If people do really want to keep this blog about the old neighborhood, why don't we invite everyone to share unique, interesting, happy, or sad stories or recollections or character sketches about the old Park Slope/South Brooklyn and its inhabitants? Whoever is interested could contribute and we could put together a "Book of Memories" or something like that to distribute at the next reunion. I would be willing to collect the essays, (sorry I am an English teacher (retired--hurray!) so excuse the word "essay") proofread and edit them and get them bound into a book. Of course we can use some of the stories already on the blog. What do you think? It might encourage the more reticent bloggers to contribute and would be great fun to read.

Hello back at you Sue from the Old Goat in Florida. I notice that you are in NJ. We spent about 35 years in NJ before we came to the west coast of Florida. Whereabouts in NJ are you? We lived in New Milford for a few years and then the next 30 years in Bergenfield.

Can not wait to be in the sunshine state tomorrow for our reunion cruise with the family that could not make the ny reunion. GOING WITH A BUNCH OF OLD GOATS ON THIS CRUISE FROM FLORIDA. These are all my Dads cousins from 21st street. We have not seen each other in 40 yrs. Although I saw some this weekend at my cousins wake, my beautiful, handsome cousin i am kissing in my photo. We are probably going to have a great time because no on really feels like going after the loss of Donnie. This cruise is going to be in honor of him. For all those new coffee pots:
I call this "Crumbcake from Brooklyn"
Ingredients
Topping:
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar (light or dark-whatever u have)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 stick unsalted butter, melted
1 1/3 flour
Cake:
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature (3/4 stick)
3/4 cup sugar
2 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest (or orange, or none at all)
2/3 cup sour cream
1 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup fresh blueberries (or frozen-let them defrost first)
Powdered sugar for sprinkling later
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter and flour a 9-inch round baking pan.
For the topping:
Combine the sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl. Stir in the melted butter and then the flour. Mix well and set aside.
For the cake:
Cream the butter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment on high speed for 4 to 5 minutes, until light.
Reduce the speed to low and add the eggs 1 at a time, then add the vanilla, lemon zest, and sour cream.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. With the mixer on low speed, add the flour mixture to the batter until just combined. Fold in the blueberries and stir with a spatula to be sure the batter is completely mixed.
Spoon the batter into the prepared pan and spread it out with a knife. With your fingers,
crumble the topping evenly over the batter. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean
Cool completely and serve sprinkled with confectioners' sugar and a fresh perked cup of coffee. -

I tried to go back to the old blog, because I wanted to print all our entries. I cannot find. I hope they are not deleted. Perhaps I'm in the wrong spot. Hopefully, someone can see if they are still there. The administrator must have them archieved somewhere. Let's pray he does. -
