Tranferring negatives to digital images

I have all of these wonderful pictures from my various travels that are trapped on negatives. Is there a service that can transfer them to a cd for me?

Beware: my dad used a similar service to transfer tons of slides and swears that not only did they duplicate some (and charge him extra), they also lost a bunch. So I got him this neat (albeit low-end) device before realizing that it wouldn't work with his Vista os:

I lost the receipt, so I still have it if anyone wants to borrow it. The quality of the scans was meh, but a Photoshop guru could probably get good results. Or anyone meticulous enough to dust off the negative/slides before scanning, unlike me...

Target will gladly do it for you. At least they did mine about a year ago. The Target at Gateway Mall off the Belt Pkway.

I used to be a Drum Scanner for many years, find a place in the city that has a drum scanner, Spectra does it but they are a bit expensive, there a bunch of Digital printing and services on 20th, 21st and 22nd street, between Broadway and 5th and they are cheaper. Or you can buy a film scanner yourself for a couple of Hundred dollars, but it is no comparison to a Lyno Hell Type scanner that is for sure!
