How is the Satellite TV in PH?
I'm moving to PH. I want to get one of those triple play packages but can't get cable to the house we're moving to - can't get neighbors approval to let Cablevision in. So, I think I'm going to do DirectTV. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with it?

I dont understand - you cannot get neighbors approval (which I don't know why you need) or you cannot get your landlord's approval?
In any event, my neighbor had DirectTv for a while and enjoyed it but within the last year the service has been kind of iffy. They keep telling him that it is because of the trees, or the larger buildings surrounding him. He finally gave up and got cable. -
Sorry to confuse you - house is not currently wired for cable. And there are 3 houses between my house and the last house wired for cable. We need LL permission for all 3 houses for cable tchs to wire through all the back yards.
Your friend - do you know if his dish was obstructed or was that just an excuse? -

I dont think it was an excuse because in the winter he got pretty good service but when the trees bloomed it was so-so. Unfortunately where they placed the dish was the only available place for it so it could not be moved. -
The previous occupant and the former renters upstairs both had Direct TV they loved it.
Cablevision sucks (but we still have it). -

That is a bunch hogwash. I once tried to fight the cable company from running lines on my building. According to law, if there is a phone line running to the house, the cable company has "grandfather" rights to run cable as well.

As far as DTV, as long as there is some decent line of sight, you can get a signal. It is just a matter of the dish size. If an 18" dish isn't cutting it, then request a 30". -

Tisk-tisk - everyone knows that geostationary satellites need to be placed above the equator... -
We've been DirecTV customers for about 8 years (6+ in the neighborhood) and have had very little in the way ofsignal problems. Service is only interrupted when there's areally bad rainstorm or the like. I'd recommend it.

a: legally, your landlord has to allow you to get cable. google it, it's the law. (yes, i'm serious)
on the other hand,
b: i have a dish. i love my dish. it only occasionally goes out, during thunderstorms. i'll do everything i can not to give time warner i penny of my $$. -
We had DirectTV for about four years and never had any problems with it. I can only remember it flickering a few times, in really really heavy weather. We had one of those oval dishes that gets two stations at once. We only switched to cable because we wanted an HD TiVo and Direct TV doesn't support TiVo anymore--boo.

I was a loyal DirecTV customer for 7 years. Moved twice in Jersey with them and then when i came to PH. My dish had recently been giving me problems. Recording things scrambled like it was raining 24/7. Called them to figure out what to do and was very unimpressed with their customer service. Used to be so much better. Wanted them to send me a new TiVo receiver and they said that i would have to sign up for two more years of service. seemed a little ridiculous. what if i wanted to cancel my service? they would charge me for every month that i ended the contract prematurely. I was surprised that after so many years of loyal service i was told that they would screw me if i cancelled. Long story longer. I cancelled the service without trying to fix the problem, and they didn't really care. Didn't try to keep me as a customer, didn't offer anything. Just thought you should know. if there are people in your building with satellite see what they say. I killed my tv and watch things online now. good luck. -
I have had DTV for 5+ years. As stated. only becomes problematic in HEAVY HEAVY storms. It's a bummer that you cannot have on Demand or Tivo...but it's a tad cheaper than warner. I am satisfied.
