I know that she cut a deal with Obama to go away and be supportive of him. I think she got $$ to pay debts from his campaign and he's gotta hook her up somehow. one of the deal points was that he couldn't have a female veep. but sec of state? works for me. I love her so much. the country needs both Obama and Clinton, frankly.
  • You know, my gut reaction is that I'd almost prefer to see her stay in the Senate and assume more of a leadership role there. But I'll have to think on this one a bit. There are certainly good things on both paths.
  • good point, daver. I would prefer that O leave C in the senate and then appt her to the supreme court. however. I'm not sure she'd make it through the senate approval. so maybe sec of state is best?
  • I'd rather see Lugar as Sec. of State. I think the guy has a great reputation with his work internationally and it would help appease the right, not they deserve appeasing but, hey, it's politics.
  • I'm surprised. I really thought Hillary's most powerful role would have been the future (or current) leader of the senate. I mean, that's a career-long post. Secretaries of State rarely last more than one term.

yeah. but who knows what deal they cut? obama could pass muster as a sup court justice. the clinton family is jacked on that front. not that I'd be happy about obama being a sup court justice - he's way too conservative for my taste and clearly uninformed about the constitution. but he'd still make it. clinton as sec of state would be good set-up for a run in 8 yrs.

Noticeably more so than Hillary? I don't see it. Especially ideologically speaking.

Hmm. He was a professor of constitutional law at U of Chicago for 12 years.
  • Barak and Deborah!?! Oh, Hillary!

i like having her as senator, but senate power is all about seniority, and she started late. i'm not sure how much of a real leadership role is in the cards there.
  • I've never liked Hillary, but don't know why. ...so I'm more biased than most.

Hillary seems to always want status, and to please her fan base. ...older white women. I'm not sure what Hillary can get that will make her feel she is pleasing them.

I can't imagine that Hillary would get the status she craves from being Sec of State, b/c we've already had female Secretary of state (Albright, Rice) ...so, I'm betting she'll pass on it if offered.

Hillary also likes to piss off the right, but the right is in such disarray right now that I'm not sure she can get them organized enough to hate her.

What to do Hillary?, what to do!

I know. clinton, however, is up front about her plans. obama sounds when he talks much more liberal but when you actually read the text of his statements, you realize he's quite conservative. I'm an econ. conservative but a social liberal. eh.

and I know he was a professor of con law. he also voted for FISA which I judge unconstitutional based on my knowledge of the constitution from my con law prof and, of course, my own beliefs and legal practice.

we clearly must discuss. I love her. she's so old school, "here's my list with all the important stuff" type politician. I mean, she walks into debates with her 15 point plan to fix health care instead of a bunch of platitudes. how can you not at least ... respect that?

I know a lot of folks disagree with me, but I'd rather see/hear a plan than hear someone preach at me. but ... that's just me.
  • Hillary is organized, smart, and does her homework ...I won't deny that.
But there is something about her just makes me dislike her. I don't know what it is, maybe a psychologist could help me out in this and other areas.

...if anything could get the right organized again, it might be the re-appearance of Hillary. They hate everything about her... She is the polar opposite of Palin.

Of course they deserve it -- they're the ones who've been insisting all along that Obama is an appeaser. The only thing more appropriate than Secretary of State would be ambassador to Sudetenland.

I'm sick of obama appeasing the right. he's such a fucking centrist to begin with - how about appeasing the fucking left? infuriating. he locks away his veep to keep him from sounding too much like someone who can think.
  • the dems won big this election cycle and 2006. if there was ever a time the right didn't need (politically) to be appeased, this is it.

no need to be "post-partisan" or whatever with such a big office, anyway.

i could also see richardson as a good fit for SOS.

Ok, so does that mean Hillary gets ambassador to Sudetenland?

haha. wasn't richardson sec of ed under clinton? I love him, too. hippies make me happy.

Hillary could be the ambassador to Chapaqua (sp?) ....wait, nevermind.

  • ^^^^ er. LOL.
  • Nice Machiavellian move by Obama. Bravo!
  • I hope that Hilary does get a Cabinet post and that Governor Paterson appoints Sheldon Silver to serve out her term as Senator. Otherwise Silver will be leaving the Assembly feet first.

lolz at a Hillary supporter passionately calling Obama a centrist.

Come on man, I see your points, but I definitely don't see how he's that much more of a centrist political figure than Hillary Clinton, or anyone else from the Clinton group.

I never said clinton wasn´t a centrist, dude. but the right hates hill, so not appointing her would have been a nod to the right. he´s already nodded quite enough.

The only way not appointing Hillary would be a nod to the right would be if she was Obama's main choice but didn't pick her to satisfy the republicans. I don't think that's the case. Whoever he picks should be about who's best and if he thinks it's Clinton, I don't agree but fine. But while he shouldn't try appeasing republicans he shouldn't have to swallow the DNC's picks either.
  • indeed, just because I hate strawberry ice cream does not mean you are appeasing me by choosing chocolate.
  • I remember reading a comparison of the bills that Clinton & Obama have sponsored or co-sponsored. Obama's were all across the board, whereas a large percentage of Clinton's were focused on health/women/children issues. I would have loved to have seen her as Sec of Health - I think that's where her true interests lie.
