Kindle — Brooklynian

Kindle

Does anyone out there have a Kindle from Amazon? I read - a LOT - and am curious about your experience. They are kind of expensive but there are so many books I read that I just end up leaving out on the street or donating to Salvation Army. Worth it? Thanks.

  • Library cards are free...
  • I've read that the hardware is a bit clunky (it's easy to accidentally turn the page while holding it), and the form of Sony Reader looks a lot nicer. However, the Kindle has the advantage of having free wi-fi, so it doesn't need to be hooked up to a computer to download a book or newspaper. I'd like one of these as well, but I'm going to wait for the next generation (and for The New Yorker to become available). I'll always want a physical book in my hands, but for newspapers and magazines I'd rather have this than cluttering my apartment and wasting paper.

Plus, while they are pricey, I think more recent books are cheaper to download than they are to pick up a physical copy. If you read enough you should have your investment back in no time.
  • And here I was, thinking that Amazon was selling a device that triggers epilepsy.
  • Anthony - thanks. I was looking at the Sony Reader as well but I do like the wi-fi capabilities on the Kindle.... so who knows. Plus I do like to hold a book in my hand but there are only so many books I can hold onto. I'm sorting it out but your insight was helpful.
  • Let me know what you get, and post a review. I'd like to hear what you think about the Kindle, or whatever you ultimately get.
