Looks like Daschle has that post.
  • I thought John Kerry was getting Sec of State. Personally I believe he's better qualified. I would put Clinton in charge of education or health, maybe as a Supreme Court Judge.

I mean, you called him a 'fucking centrist'.

Not to harp on it, but my point is that I find it pointless for anyone who's a fan of Hillary to call out Barack for being a centrist.

As Jon Stewart said, the interesting thing about Hillary as Sec of State is that foreign policy is perhaps the area where BO an HC most disagree ideologically. Hillary seems more hawkish, much to my dismay.
  • ^ i think someone a bit hawkish (hillary is hardly al haig) is a good choice for obama, actually. allows him to be good cop a bit without appearing weak.
  • Have pants suit, will travel

I love her so much. the country needs both Obama and Clinton, frankly.

  • I think Bill is paying Obama to give her the job.
  • i know, right? it is SO HARD to believe that he might think a WOMAN with her qualifications could possibly be a GOOD CHOICE, even if an awfully large percentage of the country was DELUDED into thinking she'd make a good president. must be that her HUSBAND paid him off, since we know how strapped for cash the obama campaign was.

ETA: and, of course, we all know that bill and barry are totes BFF. that's what makes your scenario so very OBVI, ham.

    criminy.
  • So remind me again: who got paid off (or who had to screw whom) for Madeleine Albright to assume the position in the Clinton Administration?
  • I remember Hillary getting credit for running the white house while Bill was in office. ...he was painted as an bubba from Arkansas, while she was painted as being a smart, in control lawyer. ...at least that's how the media I consumed at the time portrayed her.

There seems to be lots of reasons people like Hillary, and there's lots of reasons they hate her.

I guess pants suits are in the eye of the beholder.
  • wake up, she's a crook, as well as her husband and I'd say most votes she rec'd were anti-Obama votes.
If she is so brilliant and talented why wasn't she picked as VP,pants suit and all.

    She wouldn't have accepted it.

    this is killer political analysis.

why do you feel she would have rejected the offer, if presented to her.
  • ....so, seriously, where do you think Hillary will be two years from now (this gives her time to serve out her senate post if she wants to)?

    UN?
    Sec of State?
    Teaching at some college?
ribbon cutting ceremonies at new local supermarkets?
  • she'll probably sit it out till the next Presidential election

I´m sure it was discussed and rejected. she wanted to be president or part of the cabinet. not second string.

uh. what´s wrong with politicians kissing babies and cutting ribbons at grand openings?

I think half of the hatred of hillary is that she does the same stuff all the other assholes people have voted for in the past did. it´s called ... politics.

I´ve harped on it a bit, yeah, but the fact is that the average obama supporter acts like the guy is frickin´ ron paul. um. no. move along. he´s just like the other guys in the middle. frankly, he´s more like bill clinton than he´d care to admit. smooth talker, staunch centrist, solid support of the black community. whatever. tired.

want to talk correa? dude just flipped his constitution in september!
  • so, wait I'm confused ...do I dislike Hillary because she is a politician (as per alaf) or because she is a woman (as per sweet tea)?

Can't I dislike her because she just annoys me?

    I like some politicians.
    I like some women.
    I like some women politicians.

    Must I like Hillary?

this was reported in every major news publication or network I vaguely pay attention to. can I tell you definitively whether it was the economist or cnn? nope. but, I know I read and saw this information in more than one place. and from sources, like the economist, that have no reason to b.s. the issue.
  • Obama has Clinton right where he needs her: one rogue move away from dismissal.

We'll see if she's a team player now and whether Bill can keep his ego in check.

Obama is a centrist through & through and anyone considers themselves 'informed' and argues otherwise is ass-wrong. I consider myself a progressive and most progressives I know and/or read are fully aware of where Obama lies on the spectrum.

That being said, if the masses are inspired by Obama and the end to our long national (bush-cheney) nightmare, so be it. Far more frustrating forces are at work in this country, IMO.
  • Both Obama and HRC are centrists, although Obama has spent more time at the "grassroots" progressive level than HRC. Where Obama appears to differ from both Clintons is that he doesn't lead with his ego. The community organizing background, as well as his own temperament, appears to check the sort of extreme self-regard that leads the Clintons into self-destruction land. What won't be "tired" about Obama is that he could actually get some progressive legislation passed that moves the country ahead. If he succeeds in this, he'll have proved to be a much better politician than HRC or WJC (sadly, WJC's major achievement, the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, is a "right of center" policy) . And what counts is how power is used not just possessing it.

Obama's one political sin (according to Clintonistas) is that he has inspired hope in people about certain ideals. I'd prefer a president that inspires idealism over one who inspires self-loathing (Bush). Unfortunately, HRC didn't inspire idealism, which pretty much makes a winner of candidates who do. That's not a personal failing on her part, but to take a dismissive attitude towards it (as she did during the primaries) indicates a lack of maturity, depth and intelligence.
  • Her first assignment as secretary of state should be to Somali, when taken hostage , Obama should request $25 million to take her back, along with the return of the furniture she and Bill borrowed.
  • I think one of the things I like most about Obama is the fact that he's a pragmatist through and through. It's so nice to see some reality after a decade of ideology trumping practical, data-driven policy. I think this guy is going to do some good nuts-and-bolts work over the next four (eight) years, and a lot of his appoinments reflect that. I know that people give him crap for not always adhering to principle, but I'm kinda sick of principle at this point. If you want someone with unyielding, unwavering values, move to Oklahoma or Iran. I want someone who can bend without breaking.

As for Clinton, I lost a lot of respect for her during the primary, and I'm not excited at the prospect of her placement in such a big position in the cabinet. She's clearly competent and will no doubt do a fine job. But all her B.S. earlier this year, pretending to suddenly start caring about the rights of Michigan & Florida voters exactly at the same time that she started to lose some states (even comparing it to the civil rights movement!!!) left me with a bad taste in my mouth. She drove a big wedge into the Democratic party, purely to further her own interest at the expense of the party's, over a nonsensical issue. In a different year, she could have derailed the whole election for us. I've been a bit disgusted, and I consider her to be 110% politician.

In fact, I vowed to vote for any reasonable Democratic challenger in her next contest. However, she and Bill sucked it up and came out and did the right thing towards the end of the election. I respect them for that, though again I'm pretty sure there was a fair amount of self-interest involved. So I feel mollified at this point, and while I'm not excited about her, I think she'll do a good job wherever she's put.

Hopefully she and Obama won't butt heads too much, but I'm pretty sure he can handle it regardless.
  • Big guy, are you sure you don't dislike her just because she is a woman?

    --my comment is complete sarcasm--
  • Lol. I agree that the misogynist card has been getting thrown around too much when people say they don't like Hillary. Not liking her doesn't make you a misogynist any more than not liking Obama makes you a racist.
  • I don't like Obamas wife, would that make me a misogynist racist
  • I like Obama's wife, but must admit I know very little about her.

Despite saying nothing about why I like her, I wonder if some on this board now believe I am a horny white pig, lusting after some black woman that I've only seen on TV.

Speaking of Sec of State: I admire Rice for her work. I could have never worked for Bush for that long. ...wait, does that make her a sell out?
I envy those who sell out. If I could sell out I would likely be more successful than I am.

...but I could never dream of being as smart or as successful as Ms. Rice. I don't like her politics, but she knows her stuff.
