Where is it?
-
It's on Greene off Classon.
-
Not classon, between Grand and Cambridge on Greene.
-
ock, I always get classon and grand mixed up...thanks.
-
Thanks any update on an opening date?
-
I had heard it would open on Wednesday too. So, I called Choice Market and asked when it open. They said Friday 11/21. But when I caught the bus across the street from the new Choice Greene this morning, the front area was full of trash and the tarp was still blocking our view inside. This place was originally supposed to open a year ago! Geez, I hope it's nice and that they have good stuff. Better be worth the wait! I imagined myself popping in to buy fresh flowers for my Thanksgiving table next week. Ha! Maybe New Year's...

choice greene opened this morning!
-
yep it's definitely open. it looked SO cute! there were a few people inside. i really wanted to stop in but i was running, and didn't have any money on me. anyhoo, looks pretty awesome.
-
thanks!
of course, i'm out of town right now.
did anyone go in? what did you think? -
Subject: Choice Greene
Fresh vegetables and bread and flowers. A godsend. Based on a quick first visit, the prices seemed pretty reasonable. The cashier was downright sweet. -
It looks like they're about 50-60% stocked. There's fruits and vegetables, cheese, charcuiterie, bread, , flowers, some dairy items, and some grocery items. The meat/fish counter isn't up and running yet, and there's still a fair amount of open shelf space. I'm sure they will be up to speed soon!
-
...and fish within 10 days! The back garden is great, if too cold now...
-
i'm so thrilled it is finally open. the cheese, charcuterie and bread were especially impressive. i love love the winter flowers. the fruit and vegetables were very nice looking (maybe a little random), and their plans seem promising - the fish department especially. that said, my first purchases were quite pricey.

went today... must say the place is gorgeous. meticulous. there weren't many people there, but i'm sure it will be very successful.

Anyone know what their hours are?

Fish arrived today. Not too unreasonably priced. And $1 avocados!? Is that a deflation thing?
-
yeah, the fish is quite pricey - it looked beautiful though.
some of the produce is really inexpensive - brussels sprouts for $1.85/lb? they're $4/lb at the pioneer! not that i'm complaining... -
oh, and i don't know what time they open, but tonight they closed at 8 pm.
-
The fish pricey? I don't think so. I just got salmon for $9.95/lb, which is as cheap as it is at Pathmark and cheaper than frozen at Trader Joes. My husband and I went in for the first time last night and got fish, a single beautiful leek to cook with it, bread and some gorgeous grapes. The grand total was $19.00. I could go to the bodega for hagen dasz, kraft mac n cheese and a bud and come out spending more.
The fish counter said Sushi would be available starting next week. I am IN LOVE. -
yeah, i don't think it's pricey at all, though i stuck to veggies and herbs. thyme for 50 cents a bunch! nice! i also dig that you can get individual eggs. i don't use them that often, so if i just need a couple that's kind of great.
sushiiiiiii!! -
i was looking at tuna, and though it looked wonderful, at $25/lb that, to me, seemed a little pricey.
in general, including the fish i bought today, it seems really reasonable - shockingly so in some cases. i thought they made a mistake when i was charged 50 cents for a nice bunch of lemon thyme.
i'm so excited the sushi is coming soon! -
choice greene is fantastic. i'm done looking for potential flaws. i'm in love.
the day of, we decided to have a new year's cocktail party. a few hours before, i went to choice greene and got cheeses, cured meat, nice crackers, shrimp, vegetables... just about everything i wanted. and it was really quite reasonable. and the woman who runs the cheese/meat section gave wonderful suggestions.
also, i love the white anchovies. and the milk. i could go on...
any favorites to recommend? -
Agreed. It's so nice to buy salad greens for a night and have them cost $1, rather than buying a $4 package in a hard plastic container at the Met.
