Fireworks in the Park?

Will there be fireworks in the park for the holiday weekend? Does anyone know when? There was nothing on the park website, that I could discern.

  • I believe that the only fireworks that are sponsored by the park are the New Years Eve fireworks.
  • i am a lucky girl! why just last night there was a fantastic fireworks display right outside my bedroom window. sleep is for wussies!

ok, that was only slightly sarcastic, but for real, i was pretty impressed with the quality of the contraband fireworks display on my block this year. i just wish it was four hours earlier. where the hell did they get those things?
  • last year on my block there were fireworks ALL summer, all night long. this year has been much better. i have no idea where they come from -- down south, probably, where such things are legal and easy to obtain. i'm always happy when the park has fireworks because my livingroom window frames them perfectly, so i can get a great view and I don't have to go anywhere (which is a nicer perk in January than in July, I do concede).
  • The main place to go here in NYC is Chinatown. Lotta black market fireworks there. I know someone who buys them and speaks Cantonese natively and tells me that some rooftops, you go up there and there's little shops for fireworks. Weird, but he says that's true.

I actually really don't like the fireworks that people just set off. They can cause fires. The ones in the parks are carefully controlled by professionals. The ones on the street are set off mainly by drunk people and children. I get a little edgy when they start setting them off. I'd hate to make a midnight fire escape evacuation over someone's errant bottle rocket. Not that I've ever heard of that happening here in NYC, but whatever.
