no- just get yourself fired. But in this economic climate, why would you?

No, if you get fired you don't get unemployment. You have to be laid off.

As far as I know, you cannot receive unemployment if you quit your job. You must lose your position through no fault of your own (layoff, work hour reduction, etc), although maybe you could make a case if you left your job because the environment was hostile or something like that? I know that you can apply for a hearing if you are rejected for benefits but don't know about what kind of circumstances where benefits would be allowed to someone who left their job voluntarily.

If you get fired, you can collect, so long as your employer doesn't try to screw you over by denying benefits. -

The department of labor says you can be denied unemployment benefits if you "quit without good cause."
doesn't say what good cause is though.
i would imagine you would have to apply for benefits and then once they are denied you would have to file an appeal and have a hearing and convince the judge that it was such a shitty work environment that you could not be expected to continue.
you can't get benefits if you are self employed. -

You can't quit working for me! I don't even pay you!
Drinks tonight, buttercup? I'll even buy you one. Papi too, provided he dances for my entertainment. -

I thought employers had to pay more if their former employees filed for unemployment? If so, they would have an incentive to deny the claim.
Delicious booze sounds like the only surefire solution to this problem. I'll buy you one too, provided beaver doesn't try any funny business with the jager. -

if you are able to document reasons why you had to quit--like your boss throws things at you and you have it on video, shit like that--then you can quit. otherwise, you have to be fired without good warning in place to collect unemployment
