The Wholefoods in Manhattan on 14th ST.
Also I think maybe Radioshack will dispose of them. -
3R on 5th Avenue between 1st Street and Garfield will take them.

Try a gas station garbage dumpster, Key Food's (on 5th) dumpster near the can dispenser. Or U can always put them in a clear plastic bag and
hope the recycle truck picks them up. Nothing beats a try but a failure.

I believe all Whole Food locations have a can for batteries in their recycling area.
