Roosevelt Hotel for a Wedding
It seems that most wedding stuff is placed in this forum, so I thought I'd ask the question here. Yes, I know it's not in Brooklyn, so this is possibly off topic, however, has anyone ever had a wedding at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan (45th, just north of Grand Central)? I took a tour of the available space there today, which was nice and reasonably priced. If anyone has ever had an event there, whether a good or bad experience, I'd like to hear about it.
Thanks,

Have you checked out that new place on 6th Street between 2nd and 3rd in Brooklyn. I will try to find the website but it looks pretty nice to have a wedding in. Don't know if they cater but if you are interested I will try to find the link to the place.
I went to the Roosevelt for a brunch function once and it was nice. Nothing spectacular (but then again this was a business function) but the service was very good. -
Stacey,
Thanks for the info. I haven't checked out anywhere in Brooklyn, as we'd like to get hitched in Manhattan (although, we are hoping to get flowers and anything extra here in the neighborhood). However, please do send the link. Maybe you can change our minds. -
Here is the one in Brooklyn

I went to a wedding at this place recently

and I found it to be fantastic from the food to the ambiance to the service of the staff it was all top notch -
My company had two holiday parties at the Roosevelt in years past. Like Stacey said, they were nice, but nothing particularly memorable. There were no problems, though, and the staff and bartenders were all very nice. The food was fine as well.
Also, there was a semi-recent thread about general event rental spaces in Brooklyn and some people mentioned places they had gone to weddings. I posted a link for a place at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where I went to a very nice reception.

We actually looked at the Tribeca spot. Unfortunately, they're booked for most of the year. I wasn't aware the Bell House did weddings. I've been meaning to go there for a show.

I don't know if they do but I figure if they rent it out for events and such this might be a win win situation for both. As a shopaholic, and haggler at that, I thought you could approach it as "hey we are willing to hold our wedding here, you can open up to a whole other market and maybe we can help each other out" (i.e., save a little $, have some extras thrown in, etc.) . I also thought that the location might be good for visiting guests since there are a few new hotels within walking or short car service ride away.

I'm sure wherever you have it, it will be great. -
I just got back from looking at the Manhattan Penthouse (block from Union Square). It seems good for our needs, and I do like the location a lot. This is definitely going to be one of the top three we choose from. That is, until someone here tells me about a horrible experience with the MP (and please do share those experiences).

How much are you looking to spend for this wedding? Just curious as it seems like you guys have money to burn...
-
Yes, I'd rather not publicly post how much (of my girlfriend's) money I'm planning on spending. We're just looking at various spots now. A lot have already been eliminated due to either budget or availability. We're hoping for a Saturday in September/October, but a lot of those weekends are already taken. I actually wanted to have the wedding down in Charleston, SC (where I'm from), but she killed that idea quick. Bah. Anyway, I'll let y'all know when we finally pick a venue, and then I'll be back for suggestions on bands, flowers, photographers, etc. And we're hoping to get as much of that stuff as possible from someone local in Brooklyn.

Good for you for snagging a sugar mama :-)
(and you can already guess that we'll all expect to be invited) -
Thank god the boyfriend doesn't read this board, you'll give him hope of snagging a sugar mama! Noooes!

You are going to shave, aren't you?
-
Of course I'm going to shave. Who wants to have a hairy ass on their honeymoon? It makes me look bad when wearing speed-o's.

anthonycm, don't know if you've looked at indiebride or not, but there are plenty of reviews for manhattan penthouse. just do a search so you don't have to weave through all the threads, but you should get a good feel for the place from what has been posted.
