No.7 in Fort Greene/Restaurant
We took our daughter out to dinner for her birthday Saturday night to No.7 and loved it. Our nieces and nephews were with us as well, and all raved about the food. The herb crusted chicken with brussel sprouts and carrot puree that I had was wonderful. My daughter loved the grouper, my husband and others had the hangar steak that was incredibly tender. The special was duck breast and was a hit as was the tofu crusted in pumpkin.
The appetizer of tuna was so good we had to order more for the group.
Entees are between $18-$25 each and the staff was attentive. They only had a table for 6, but allowed us to squeeze 8 in there and it worked fine. You just have to be friendly with each other to make that work.
It's an unusual mix of Korean and Eastern European food, but I would say it was worth the trip. Lotsa kimchee in the receipes.
Thought I'd share a great experience, cause it's always nice to know you're in for something good when you go out to dinner.
Enjoy!

I went there for the first time last week for food and drinks with a friend. Food was good but wished we had stayed at the bar. Our server was a little "lurky" for our tastes. Like regularly interrupting us. And not for nothing but there were plenty of empty tables so I really didn't feel like he needed to seat a gaggle of sorority girls at ours so that our pleasant conversation was immediately drowned out by "Oh MY GOD!!" every 30 seconds. I'll be back for drinks at the bar, but not to sit and eat.

I've been meaning to get there for a while, but they happened to be closed the one time I made a concerted effort.

Favorite restaurant in the nabe. We haven't had a bad experience or bad food any of the times we've gone.

just came back from a delicious 3hr dinner there ... my 2nd visit to no. 7.
the special tonight was a braised short rib that was sooooo tender and succulent. the staff was great and the drinks were toasty. we got dessert .. the gingerbread pudding (with mint something and cherries), definitely not "next level", maybe opt for a dessert wine next time.
i REALLY wish they had a specialty cocktail menu though. -
I felt like the portions were somewhat small... however, the drinks are amazing. Excellent dirty martini...!

I went back for dinner after my initial stop-in for drinks and appetizers. All I have to say is "overrated". I swear, people in Fort Greene are so used to mediocrity and bad service that if menus arrive within a half hour of sitting down and the food that arrives is actually what was ordered you'd think they were describing Nobu from the accolades.
And excuse me, no cocktail menu???? -
i'm going to chime in with overhyped. the atmosphere at the front is nice, but i think most off the fawning comes from the 'classiness' of the place rather than anything else. i haven't had a chance to eat anything though, and i'll tell you why.
i was in there a month or so ago with a large group of friends. we'd all been there drinking for 3+ hours when my gf and i noticed that it was almost midnight, and we hadn't eaten dinner. we were ready to go home, so we asked for the to go menu, which the bartender was happy to provide.
someone else approached us, we thought to take our order. this guy, not the bartender, came up to us at the end of the bar and said, 'listen, i am not comfortable with you guys taking this food home, it's really cold out, we kind of have a certain standard for how our food should be served, and i don't want to give you a bad impression.' my reply was, simply, 'it's food man, i'm not gonna go home and yelp about your restaurant.' my gf said, 'we live 4 blocks away, i'm sure we'll be fine.'
he refused to serve us, further explaining his 'standards'. i didn't eat dinner that night, and i haven't been back.
i think one should assume that one's brooklyn-dwelling patrons have probably ordered to go food in inclement weather before. the guy came off as a pompous, condescending ass, so whatever. i'll definitely go back if friends are there, but man, it's FOOD, and i'm an adult. it's ok, i can handle it.
this is the first i've mentioned of the incident online, but in retrospect, I should have gone home and yelped about it. -
It sounds to me like No. 7 takes themselves just a bit too seriously. Sorry people, Le Bernadin you are not. Seriously, what is up with their selective enforcement of standards? They won't serve you food to-go in bad weather yet when I dined with my boyfriend we witnessed pretty much the exact opposite, a total LACK of standards.
