where do I recycle electronics locally? — Brooklynian

where do I recycle electronics locally?

rachel rae
edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I have an old car battery,
old home phones and office phones,
misc. electronic parts.

I don't want to throw them away but they are just in a box.
what do I do with them ?

Anyone know of any programs who pick up this sort of thing? or ways to recycle them?

  • Check with the Dept of sanitation website. Car battery? maybe the local auto repair shop.
  • 3R in Park Slope accepts small stuff (http://www.3rliving.com/category_s/16.htm) but GreenDisk is a pretty cool thing that you can get your whole apt. building involved in (http://www.greendisk.com/) ... don't live in PH anymore but used GreenDisk for bigger stuff and took my batteries, cell phones and other little stuff to 3R. And there's the annual recycling at Grand Army, too.
  • also try http://earth911.com/

Does anyone know of a place that takes light bulbs? I do not want to go all the way to Home Depot. THanks!
  • I second the 3R recommendation. I bring way too many used CDR's there. There's occasional electronic recycling for bigger items at the Union Square Greenmarket as well. hope that helps.
