About to commit to an apartment...

The block has improved a lot, but there are still shootings on occasion.
...Folks hang outside the blue building all summer long.
But the gentrification of the "Dis-Associated" into St John's Marketplace will hopefully help. ...my hope is that higher prices for beer will result in less public consumption. -
Well... my apartment was emptied out one morning while at work... but that was over a year ago, and the economy has gotten much better, so I'm sure financially motivated crime is on the downswing. :-)
Anyway -- St Johns has the guys that hang out all summer (7+ months) towards the Underhill end. They drink and smoke pot, but they seemed harmless. The Washington Ave end is another story. Didn't like walking that way after dark -- and I'm a big guy.
Of course, I moved last spring, so everything could have changed. the gang o' guys smoking and drinking could have turned into a real gang... and washington ave may have turned into Beirut or maybe it's happy land now. -
one trend i have notice in prospect heights is, gentrification move in, poorer folks move out.
-
^^^speaking of apartments, I see that you have a new building next to yours!!! Dude - I don't walk down that block for a few months and new buildings sprout up!
-
very ugly building and the owners workers are jerks. I had one lady yell and curse at me (might of been his wife lol). cause i told her about with what happen to some shit they caused. she some how thinks i'm causing problems for her. i called the owner directly he seems fake nice. i don't want to deal with him or their people again.

Very noisy block, especially during the warmer months. I'd look elsewhere...

I used to live on sterling near Washington 06-07, then moved to Classon b/ t prospect and park. I'm a woman and came and went alone at night and for work at 5am up to the eastern pkwy 2/3 train and never had any trouble. Never heard any gunshots, never been harrassed by guys on the corner. I think the neighborhood is fine unless your a nervous person who is afraid of non- white folk. I think folks project their own fear most often and less substantial information commonly. Good luck.

why would you want to move into a neighborhood that you seemingly know nothing about? especially if you are going to "commit"?
-
It's certainly noisy during the summer months but it's a terrific neighborhood with easy subway access, friendly neighbors and a growing number of stores and restaurants. We've never had safety issues but are cautious, especially late at night (something we do in practically all NYC neighborhoods).

Um, excuse me? Are we living on the same PLANET? -
Do you see the smiling emoticon after the statement? That means that his/her statement was intended to be tongue-in-cheek.

That's funny, I always thought the regular smile was intended as just that.. silly, naive me.
I guess I unreasonably assumed that a newcomer to Prospect Heights was not fully in touch with reality. Imagine that.
Howdy, Stranger!
