Brooklyn DMV — Brooklynian

Brooklyn DMV

Has anyone here renewed their driver's liscence at the Brooklyn DMV at Atlantic Ctr? How did it compare to the Manhattan offices? Less insane? More so? Do I have to get there at 8:30am to avoid the crowds?

Thanks for any tips.

  • i've never been to the manhattan one, only the brooklyn one. i have been to ones in PA and they are all equally annoying. it took me about 2 hours to get my new license...but it was a saturday.
  • I like the one in lower Manhattan. Not first thing but mid morning I think is best and not toward the end of the month.

Agreed. It's on Greenwich Street, very close to the 4/5 at Bowling Green. I was in and out in 20 minutes!
  • Went there once to update my registration and it was okay.
For renewing a license I would reccomend the express DMV at 34th and 8th, they only do a few select services so the lines move quickly......double check online to make sure the service you need is done there.
  • Here is the link for the express DMV:

  • The last time I had to renew, I did so via mail. It was about as pain-free as dealing with govt employees could get.
  • I wouldn't recommend the license express. While they are fast, they screwed up the photo finishing on my new license. So I had to go back, and I wasn't going back there, so I went back to the Brooklyn DMV. Took about 2 hours.
  • I've had good experiences at the License Express on 34th, twice. They know they're the place for people in a hurry. If you get there when it opens you'll be out of there in no time. One time I went there I was changing my name, which took some time fiddling with documents, but the time I went for a straight-up renewal I was out in <20 minutes. Just make sure you have all the right documents before you go.
  • Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I think I'm going to either the License Express or the Bowling Green one, fingers crossed it'll be fast. Unfortunately don't qualify to do it by mail :(
