Does anyone know what happened? Was anyone hurt? It happened yesterday....

  • Not sure what happened, but if Access a Ride was involved, my money is on them being responsible for the crash. They drive as if they're in a demolition derby.
  • Access A Ride pisses me off on a regular basis. Last summer I was in the city and watched as one of their drivers pulled over and emptied a bag of trash onto the sidewalk from inside the van - what makes the story even better is the 3' proximity from the van's door to a city-maintained trash can. When I called him out on it he cursed at me loudly and flipped me the bird as he drove his incredibly overweight arse off into the sunset. I filed a formal complaint and still wonder if anything ever happened to him. Jerk.

I hope no one was injured in the recent crash.
  • I thank GOD no one I know has to take one of those shitty buses. And I pray for the poor people who do. They have got to be, hands down, the worst drivers on the planet.
  • a guy who used to work for me had to take one for a few months after breaking his leg. He decided getting on the subway during rush hour was safer.
  • access a ride have very low standards when hiring folks :p.
  • I don't know how they're even legal. Every time I walk or bike across Flatbush I worry for my life. I've almost been hit by one of these every time.
  • they got a great union, and combine that with a very low to bad recruiting pool of personnel. you got yourself a shitty pool of drivers.

I should know :p I drove for them for a a month LOL. I was bored I thought about exploiting their dental plan. But couldn't stand the union or their work ethic.

The test to get in is very easy, they still allow cheating. the test guy would either leave the room for a hour or just read something and pretend folks aren't copying mulitpy choice answers.

Cause they know very few are literate. Most drivers border on moronic. I sleep through all their tape classes. Still manage to be the 1st pick of the class.

Those who are qualified they go work for the MTA instead of driving for these guys. Btw pay isn't bad I think starting pay is like 20 something a hour. they got nice heath and dental plan. This would be great for lazy folks.
  • I was coming back home from Trader Joe's on Saturday along Atlantic Ave when I saw an Access-A-Ride van cut off an Academy bus. The Academy bus signaled to go into the right lane and as soon as it did, the Access-A-Ride van sped up immediately to try to get in front of the bus, by the time the bus driver saw the van, they almost collided, the van would have slammed into the right side of the bus. The van driver kept going while the bus driver made an abrupt stop.
  • The people who truly suffer at the hands of these drivers are the program's service recipients. I used to work for an agency that served disabled adults, many of whom relied on Access-A-Ride to get them to work everyday. Sadly, many often arrived late and endured long rides home. It was very sad to see people who had overcome major obstacles in order to return to the workforce have to deal with such crap. Those who resides further from the Manhattan business districts (e.g. North Bronx, eastern Queens, etc.) fared especially bad.
