A Funny Brooklyn Story

I was finishing my lunch at a local café today when a well-dressed woman entered and ordered a coffee with skim milk. The server mixed her coffee and the woman said “Perfect, thanks,” and sat down. Five minutes later, she rose and brought her coffee back to the counter. She said, I’m sorry, but this coffee is too hot to drink, can you add more skim milk?”

The server obliged, pouring in the milk. As the coffee rose in the paper cup, the customer raised her hand and said, “Perfect, thanks.”

Four or five minutes later, the woman once again rose from her seat and approached the counter. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be a pain,” she said, “but now the it’s too cold. Would you add some more coffee?”

I could tell that the server was suspicious, as was I, thinking that this might be some sort of coffee scam. But the amount of coffee never got lower than an inch or so from the top of the cup, so if the continually unsatisfied customer was trying to get free coffee, she wasn’t doing a very good job of it.

The server obliged and the women left shortly after.

Everyone present had a brief chuckle.
