Crash on Vanderbilt Ave - anyone hurt?
I can't be the only one who walked down Vanderbilt ave tonight and saw this white jeep up on the median. took down the trees and was busted up in the front.
Anyone saw this happen? Anyone know if the driver/passengers were ok?
I posted a vid of what we saw - must have been long after the crash happened....

Holy bejebuz! I hope everyone is OK. And once I find out that's true I'm going to get right to being pissed that those trees are gone. We just got those trees!
-
you weren't.
When the tow truck was putting it onboard, I was in the car stuck behind the bus waiting for the lane to be clear.
...also after the crash.
Pretty big crash for Vandy though. ...poor tree on the median definately didn't make it. -
I saw the driver get taken away on a stretcher. He was conscious and in a cervical collar - but I couldn't really tell much beyond that. Hopefully he's ok.
Aside from the tree, he's lucky there was nobody standing in the median crosswalk. I'm stilll kind of confused how he managed to take out the tree and then end up lodged on the opposite side of the median. -
I never understand these types of posts. Is it the electronic version of rubbernecking?
-
^^^ It's more like the electronic version of "damn, there was a Jeep on the median on Vandy - anyone know what happened and is everyone ok?"
-
at least we don't slow down the people waiting in traffic behind us.
we instead bore those who don't want to read about it.
I figure -because they are reading a thread about an accident that they didn't see- they are bored anyway, so there is no real harm. -
Well, if this post didn't exist, we'd be answering the "what happened to the trees on Vanderbilt?" post that would likely appear.
I'm pretty sure what happened was the guy drove up onto the median - clipped the tree support for the first tree, took out the 2nd tree entirely, drove through the pedestrian cutout and then _over_ the metal "safety" bollards before coming to a stop with the bollard under his rear tire. Yikes.
I was always a little skeptical that those bollards could stop a speeding car...I don't think I'll be standing in the median any more when traffic is flowing. -
chances that alcohol was involved? 90%?

Did anyone see the car that crashed and appeared stuck on the medium at Park and Vanderbilt last night? The driver seemed OK, I felt bad for him. I feel like this is going to continue to happen.
-
We saw him last night as we were walking home from Le Gamin (yum, BTW). He seemed to be searching for something in his wallet and slightly disoriented, perhaps just shaken from the accident. I don't know if I felt bad for him, it was more like I felt upset and concerned that this was the second crash on the same damn median in 3 days. WTF?
-
Where in the median did his car get stuck? Was he also going north?
-
It looked like he went strait into it from Park, but that seemed weird, maybe he was making a last minute or wide right turn onto Vanderbilt and didn't see the guard bump things. The driver looked sad in his car, it seemed like a mental mistake but his car was pretty smashed and literally stuck.
