Ripple under work??
I've walked by Ripple the past few days, and noticed the gate was up with a work permit showing.
Looks like they are repairing the ceiling for fire code? (not too sure on details,...)
i did a quick search and havent noticed any posts on its possibly reopening, so wanted to see if anyone had an idea on whats going on??

Haven't heard anything- hope its another bar though....or a restaurant. With a bar.
-
ripple was a "sketchy watering hole"? i must be made of tougher stuff than i had realized.
nice to see all this new action on washington. -
So, is this a good thing or a bad thing?
-
Ripple was an okay place... not what I'd call "sketchy". Many of the owners were locals, and nice guys at that. I hadn't heard that they were going to re-open, so my assumption is that this will be an entirely new place, under different management/ownership.

Siberia Redux?
Wednesday, April 8, 2009, by Amanda
Finally, news of a new bar from the owner of the beloved and long shuttered dive Siberia. Sadly, it's in Prospect Heights: "Tracy Westmoreland has landed in Brooklyn. His new watering hole, Manhattans—at 769 Washington Ave. in Prospect Heights—will open on Friday...'This bar will draw the coolest people that live in Brooklyn—I want the artists, I want the freaks, I want the drag queens.”. [Brooklyn the Borough]
I used to hang at Siberia Bar once and a while - it was the darkest, dingiest yet chill bar in Hell's Kitchen and I saw many a band play downstairs. Sounds like Tracy's trying to bring that vibe back. Should be interesting.... So many bars opening on Washington (that's 3 I know of starting from last week through July).
Oh and apparently there's a film in production about the old locale...

Holy shit. BEST. NEWS EVER.
-
Wow this is incredible! Siberia huh!?! Damn! This is great!
Scarlett!! Voodoo! Beaver!! Let's go on Friday!!! -
ooo, look who's got legs that can cross vanderbilt now.
-
For Siberia, you know it!
-
HA!! This is hilarious, from the owner of Siberia and the new Manhattans space:
How much are you charging for drinks?
It’ll be cheap. You know, I ordered a Belvedere and tonic at this place in the neighborhood (it begins with F and ends in Park) and the bartender said it was $9. I said, “$9?” She said, “Yeah, it’s great. These are happy-hour prices!”

awesome@!! -

Dumb question, but what are the other 2? I haven't noticed anything on that stretch. Are they locally owner or are they carpet baggers like this guy. Either way, holy crap this neighborhood is getting trendy!

You're right. Is it just me or does it look like they don't have any taps either (just like Ripple used to not have). Then again, if it's going to be a dive, then maybe that's for the better - no dirty taps that they don't clean.

Sorry. For full disclosure, Ripple was the first bar that I frequented when I first moved into the neighborhood. Even if I hadn't been there in a while before it was closed down, I was pretty bummed when it happened since I liked the co-owner/bartender John Beau, and think it's lame for the new guy to be referring to it as "shady" when it really wasn't.
Well, at least, he has the right attitude about Franklin Park - what a disappointment that's become. -

Sure looks like it from that article. -
sorry had to play catch up - yes, the 3 i was talking about are washington commons, manhattan's, and flying monkey. tracy has been quoted about how he added the high beam but wasn't going to do any renovating besides that, so it should stay pretty true to the old ripple space.
on a side note, i'm most excited because i live on washington, and have been out of commission for the past few months with a broken leg. will hopefully be walking like a human by summer and then i won't have to go too far to hang! -
i really hope they still have turntables in that treehouse like area in back. i always meant to take up ripple's offer of "open table wednesdays" but never got around to it.
-
I went by there around 4P on Friday, and they were still doing light construction. Not saying they aren't open, but the opening is a soft one if they're having customers come in. Did anyone drop in later in the evening?
-
My wife and some other of our local friends got there around 9:00 pm and she left a little before midnight (I was home with the 2-yr old beast). She said it was pretty dead at first - the owner, Terry, started talking to her and bought a round - but by the time she left, it was getting pretty packed. She also said it was very nearly exactly as Ripple had been, i.e., not really a lot of cosmetic changes. Interesting.
My turn tonight. -
I swung by on the way back from Washington Commons tonight. It was definitely up and running, but had a pretty small crowd at the bar. This was about an hour ago.
I wonder if they're going to keep the newspaper up in the window. -
I was there for opening night- it was great and I think just what the nabe needs. Tracy was greeting everyone as they came in and he is indeed, one of the sweetest guys! My friend and I had a blast, didn't break our banks, and got a free round. The crowd was really cool- met lots a really nice people, got my picture taken, and later in the evening some B list actress came (I recognized her, but can't tell you what I've seen her in...short blond hair, cute, no entourage). After she arrived, Tracy came around and took everyone's bar stool (kinda funny, not rude), announcing that it was about to get real crowded. Since we lost our seats and were also losing our ability to stand, we left. Not sure if the big crowd came or not, but who cares? I fucking LOVE it and LOVE the fact that Tracy's now my neighbor!
-
I was there for about ten minutes tonight (one quick drink) and couldn't have had a better time. The bar tender and owner chatted me up for the entire time I was there, both made it a point to learn my name. Honestly, never felt more welcome in a first visit to a bar in my whole life.
-
I was there for a couple rounds, also.
Awesome atmosphere, everyone was reacting well, but most importantly...
Drinks were like $4?!?
