HELP--FOUND cat — Brooklynian

HELP--FOUND cat

edited November -1 in Brooklyn Pets
Hey guys,
I really hope someone can help out with this situation. I live on Bergen between 4th and 5th and I recently saw several signs looking for a lost Siamese cat. Our landlord is currently having work done on our roof and today when I came home I found the cat inside our complex.
I have two cats and a dog, so it was a disaster when I tried to bring the cat inside my apartment. I have fed it, set up a bed, and posted a note asking my neighbors not to toss the poor baby outside, but I really need to find the owner(s) ASAP.
If you know who this beautiful cat might belong to, or can offer advice about how to search for the owner(s) before my fellow tenants get overly annoyed, please get in touch via PM.
I really hope someone can help. This is a beautiful cat whom I'm sure someone is really missing.
Please help. Thanks, in advance, for any help...please!!

PS. Edit to ask the mods to
please sticky this post and help me find this cat's family before something sad happens to him/her...I'm already getting attached!

  • I stickied.

Do you have a picture? Be sure to search craiglist for lost cats and post on there. Plus check out the helpful links on the top "read this" thread here. I posted many links to foster associations. Making a flyer to post at the local pet stores/nabe is also helpful.

Thank you for taking the little guy in!! You have a big heart!
  • The NYC Animal Care and Control has pages for lost and found pets. Maybe you can find listings for the lost kitty.

  • Update: I searched my hood for the signs that I have been noticing for the last week or two, but no such luck. I also checked with the groups recommended on this site and even called around to the vets and pet stores that are open on Sundays, but of course many are not going to be open until tomorrow.
Luckily, this beautiful little feline is so friendly and lovable that I showed her to my neighbors and they decided to take her in...they even went right out and bought a litter box, litter, food, toys, etc...Such a warm fuzzy feeling! I had to remind them that if the kitty's owners do come forward they will need to give her back, but they really seemed to want the cutie in their home, no matter what...Yay!
I spent hours today getting the kitty situated, but I still plan on trying to find the kitty's original family if they really want her back. I lost a much beloved cat during a tri-state move about 5-6 years ago, so if the owners are looking I would like to find them. I still wish i could get my guy back!
Either way, the pretty little girl is warm, fed, being loved, and inside tonight, so I feel pretty good about the situation!
I'm gonna keep looking, but if anyone knows anything more about the recently lost Siamese cat in this area (N. Slope/Bergen and 4th/5th st) please let me know, so kitty can get back to her original people.
I'd like to keep this stickied for a bit, just in case the origial owners are really out there looking. HOwever, I think that if the cat ultimately is in need of a new home, I have already found it. Maybe Karma does really work :wink:
Sorry if I seem a little over-the-top right now, but I am so glad to be able to help an animal in need...pretty soon I'll have to go train with Caseo...might have to kick the hubby out to make room though! Kidding...
  • Aww, what a lucky kitty! She knew exactly who to go to, you've been tagged! What a wonderful person you are for helping this poor baby. And just in time before the monsoon hit!
  • Seriously I can't even imagine if she's been outside today...I got an umbrella in the eye just walking to school! She's so sweet, affectionate and beautiful I wish I could have kept her for myself. I was still looking for the signs I saw before, but today's monsoon pretty much destroyed that possibility. I'm just so glad she's got a second chance...I stopped in tonight and they are already in love with her! Yay. :D
Next thing I know I'm going to have three week old babies showing up at my doorstep...ahem...and you know who I'm talking too. If that happens
(which I hope it will...I was so happy to help that kitty), I will specifically seek you out for guidance!
Also, if anyone has advice on how I can become more involved in helping lost/missing/homeless/feral cats please post or PM me because I thrive off helping our furry, four-legged friends!
  • I'd post a picture, and put it up on 4th by the Subway entrance, both sides - the owner is bound to go to work and see it.
  • littlegal, PM leozoeypiper or lulusmomma. They can always use help with ferals!

My latest rescue wasn't even a cat, check out my post in the lounge about the bird that showed up on my doodrstep!
  • caseo, thanks for the tip. I will definitely check it out. I was supposed to take the TNR course last year, but my Grad. school program had some BS seminar that I had to attend that day, so I missed it. Time to stop procrastinating and get more involved in things that are important to me...hubby can always be replaced if he continues to resist. (if you're reading this honey, I'm just kidding-sort of!)
I checked out the bird info in the lounge. So handsome! We have two birds who have been mating and creating I don't even know how many birdie babies on the tree branch and fire escape right outside our windows every few months since we moved into this apartment. I love them and always take pics of the babies trying to learn how to fly. One of my neighbors complained to me about all the poo on the street last year (fall or spring, I forget), but I played dumb. I couldn't care less about pandering to the insensitive!
  • Hey, that's what rain is for, to wash away the poop! I'm on the top floor of my building and there are pigeons and starlings nesting under the roof. I love hearing them in the morning and they drive the kitties crazy!
  • Gotta love the rain. I despised it during the monsoon the other day when I got absolutely soaked walking to school, so thanks for placing the positive thought in my head!
Also, my kitties spend hours sitting in my two windows about a foot from where the birds' nest and their little babies grow and learn to fly, etc. Silly kitties just sit there for hours watching the birds without moving a muscle, but with their eyes constantly darting around. They look a little crazy, but its still a funny sight to see!
  • Littlegal should post photos of her new rescue project. She is quickly becoming a pro at this cat rescue stuff. These kittens are ADORABLE! Anyone interested in a hard to resist brown tabby kitten pair? One little boy and one little girl - perfect!
  • I have no idea how to post pics or do much else besides type on the computer. I do have a friend who promised to teach me though...so check back soon. They're adorable though. one's curled up on my shoulder right now and the other has tired of beating up my old rolled up science project and is now sleeping inside of it!
  • This can be unstickied anytime. i couldn't track down the original owners, but found someone else who really wanted the kitty, so problem solved. :D
