Attention Spinners: Raw Alpaca Fiber for Free
Hello crafty people,
You don't have to be a spinster to spin your own yarn. I got this e-mail in from local yarn head, Jackie Gross. She got into a "hairy" situation.
Jackie writes:
"...I have about 75 pounds of alpaca fiber in its raw state, that is, it is dirty, right off the animals.
It is not the softest and would therefore be suitable for felting, weaving, knitting or crocheting and used to make bags, slippers, hangings and outdoor clothing.
It would not be suitable for garments that would be worn next to the skin. Do you know anyone who would be interested in acquiring this fiber for free?"
75 pounds is a lot of fiber, i suggest knitting your own pet Alpaca. For more info and free raw material write to:

Whoa! How did she get it? 75 pounds!!!!!!!! That's from like 100 animals!
From what I have seen at the parents house, it's not too strenuous to clean the fiber, but you do need the table with the mesh on it and some tools. And then it's some more work to turn it into roving for spinning. -

I think it all comes from one mammoth-size alpaca. -
Scary! No, they don't get much above 175 and that's a huge stud or a super pregnant female.
Howdy, Stranger!
