Manhattan's

My first post!
Went last night with my girlfriend to check this place out after reading about it here and we both really enjoyed it. Donovan, the bartender, was really nice and even bought us a drink1
Anyone know if and when they're going to get signage? I'm cool with the newspapered front because it'd make the place a sort of secret, neighborhood dive; however, I doubt that would be too good for business so I'm assuming it's not going to stay that way. -
Welcome to Brooklynian. I really liked Manhattans when I went last week, although in truth it feels a lot like Ripple. Donovan is a great bartender.

Seeing as how they were featured in multiple magazines before they even opened, I'm not sure how true that is. -

No man, it's gonna like be secret in a totally ironic hipster way :-) -

They may never get a sign. This bar is owned by the guy who owned Siberia bar in Manhattan. To get to the original Siberia, you used to go down into the subway station to reach it. When they lost that lease they moved to 41st Street (I think), in a location with no windows at all and no sign. The only way to find it was to look for the red light that hung above the door.

There's nothing really to love about it. Its a bar. Its kind of grimy. You sit and drink. 10x better than anything on Vanderbilt though.

we asked tracy, the owner -- he said he might put an "M" outside, but probably leave it the way it is.

ha
inner-neighborhood hate?
you guys gotta pull yourselves together.
oh also this place is great. -
Spent a few hours there last night. Had more fun than I've had at a bar in years.

Wish I'd known you were there. I could have stopped by. -

It was one of those totally random things (due to some old-time Siberia frequenters) and since I never carry a wireless device...
Regarding all the media coverage, Tracy seemed at pains to point out that it had taken him by surprise, and that they didn't really want to be overexposed or overrun. They would like to keep the newspaper up, but are looking for some other solution that's a compromise between what they and their regulars would prefer and what local law enforcement would prefer. -
They should just frost the windows so you can't really see in, like what Indigo Blu used to have.

Scratchiti would give a little more "urban" look. -
I kind of like the newspaper.

how bout have a young graffiti artist come in and "tag" the windows.
but with the good stuff.
will block out the windows and provide some color like modern day stained glass. -

Stopped in on my way home from Franklin Park tonight. Manhattans is the perfect "last drink of the night on the way home" spot. Donovan is awesome. Tracy was there this time, but I didn't get to talk to him (really needed to head home).

OK, where is it? (I have a newborn so I haven't been paying attention to the local bar scene much.)

It's where Ripple used to be, on Washington off of St Johns. -

FYI, I asked them whether I could bring an infant next time, and they said sure. -

I hope to GOd you're kidding. Keep you strollers out of the bars. Park Slope has already been ruined, please don't ruin Crown Heights -

If she has my genes, my kid could drink you under a table. 8) -

Definitely not kidding; it's well known that my daughter's been going to bars this side of Flatbush since she was 10. Days old. But I wouldn't bring a stroller, and I'd probably have her home and in bed before you got there. -
ah, baby dr j: giving a whole new meaning to the term "bar crawl".
-
Gotta say, I'm not a fan. Personally, I think it is lame that it looks just like Ripple, when it is so far from what Ripple's vibe was like. Secondly, i find the "newspaper" collage on the windows to also be like a fuck you to Washington Avenue. Just my opinion....
-
Like the newspaper. And the bar.
Will be there tomorrow night. -
was there last night. good times. thanks for the drink, tracy.
-
Yeah, popped in there and Washington Commons last Friday night - could not be more opposite places. Tracy is a good guy though, and I barely remember paying for anything. As others have said, the newspaper is to stay. Keep in mind he lives there too, so the privacy helps that as well.
-
He lives in the bar??
I agree with LeeHo on the newspaper. -
Only Thursdays through Sunday or something. Part-time there, part-time place in Manhattan.
But let's stop talking about his private life.
Howdy, Stranger!
