Have to move. Ugh. Not happy. — Brooklynian

Have to move. Ugh. Not happy.

So, our landlord needs our apartment for her mother (long, sad story) and we need to find a new place after 4 years in our awesome home. We do not, under any circumstances, want to leave the nabe and are getting increasingly frustrated with the ridonkulous postings on craigslist and the like saying places are in PH when they're on freaking Bedford! WTF?? The borders of PH/CH/etc. have been rehashed exhaustively here, but seriously, what the hell is up with idiot broker assholes listing apartments like that? Bergen and Rogers... NOT PH. Union and Franklin... NOT PH.

It's going to be hard enough to find a place with a 2 month old baby and a big dog - these outright lies about neighborhood locations make it that much harder. Any suggestions for better sources of apartment listings than craigslist?

Comments

  • use "north park slope" and search that in craigslist.
  • See? Now that's an idea I hadn't thought of! North Park Slope... amazing.
  • Aha! All of a sudden there are apartments listed on Vandy as North Park Slope. Genius, Santa.
  • This is where a broker can actually earn his/her fee. You have a set of parameters: nabe, child friendy, pets OK, and a limited amount of time (I assume, given your frustration).

Maybe its worth incurring the fee?

Especially if you plan on staying in the same spot for several years. Plus this opens up a lot more options for you.
  • Totally. We're going to see a few places supposedly in the nabe this afternoon. The broker I spoke with knows our parameters, so my fingers are crossed. We actually have a bit of time, I'm just really quite bummed that we have to move because we absolutely love our apartment.

    That's sick. And hilarious. Genius!
(Good luck with the apt search..)

Never mind - sounds like you need more than a 1BR, which is the only thing in our bldg.

Gah! Oh well, thanks anyway! I really appreciate the thought.

By the way, called and set up an appt with a broker for yesterday... he stood me up. Awesome. I rearranged my afternoon to accommodate HIS schedule and he stood me up.
  • i know a couple people who have had really good experiences with ideal properties.

their office is on 7th avenue and berkeley place, but i've noticed quite a few listings for prospect heights as well. they've got some nice looking and reasonably priced listings...

Good to know. I'll see what they have available. Thanks!!
  • I know of a smallish 2BR in my building, pet-friendly, recently renovated on prospect between flatbush and carlton. I think its going for 2k but I'm not sure. Let me know by private message if you are interested and I'll set you up with the owner.

PS: There are 2 newborns in this smallish building, including mine. :)
  • ^^^ PM'd. Thanks!!
  • Madman, thanks for the heads up, but the apartment was just rented. Drats! On the hunt again...
