2. Where can I get good fresh seafood? im in the 40's near 7th ave. Please do not reccomend a chinese fish market.

3.what about meat, any one know a good old fashioned meat market?

  • before anybody answers you, you will have to cook for all of us :)

    it's the brooklynian initiation

(hint: add bacon to anything, and you'll be ok)
  • Honestly, if you're a guy, I'll figgin' marry you. There's a butcher on 47th and 5th. I can't give you a fish market, because I think fish is gross.

    It's not a sausage fest, it's a bacon fest.
  • I live north of you but I can answer the question about grilling in Sunset and other Brooklyn Parks:

    http://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/barbecue

Be sure to click on the appropriate borough tab! No dice for Sunset.

Here is some other info about Sunset Park in general:

    http://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/sunsetpark/

Enjoy your new neighborhood, the people are awesome. :D
  • I might get booed off for saying this, but I buy my meat at costco, and I am very happy with it. No you are NOT allowed to grill in Sunset Park. It is NOT one of the Brooklyn parks designated for grilling:

I had a wine and cheese party about a year ago in there, but I don't believe you are allowed to drink alcohol in there either. I haven't seen anyone do it and when I had my party, the wine was put in nice little discreet thermoses.

As per restaurants, I like Maria's on 5th avenue and 39th street, Eclipse on 4th and 42nd street and los petrillos on 4th and 39th. Restaurants suck around here. You may have to hike over to park slope for decency and variety. Not to rain harder on your parade, but I had a horrific pest sighting at sunset park diner and donuts. I _NEVER_ go there   :(
  • good stuff guys, keep it coming, cosco is great for meat, but i was hoping to find a butcher,so we could chew the fat now and then
  • Costco meat is pretty good. When I lived in a neighborhood that had Fresh Direct, I was shocked at how good their meat was (keeping my fingers crossed that they start delivering here soon). There's a halal butcher in the 60s somewhere on 5th, I think.

what does halal even mean? im off to wiki.
  • I try to only eat hormone free, anti biotic free, 100% grass fed and finished meat. The Greenmarket farmers market is usually the best bet.

Best real butcher I know about is United Meats on Prospect park West (9th Ave) and 16th St

I don't know that you can use a hibachi to BBQ, I think your grill needs to be at least 1 foot off the ground
