"A 65-year-old man waiting for a bus was killed Tuesday night by a 16-year-old male driving with only a learner's permit. From 1010WINS via Gothamist:

Stanislaw Zak, of Brooklyn, was struck and killed as he waited at a bus stop near the intersection of Bay Ridge Parkway and 18th Avenue at about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The teen will be ticketed for driving with a learner's permit without a licensed driver, police said. No word yet as to whether the teen will face additional charges.

Police say the teen's Mazda struck another car before it struck and killed Zak.

The teen was taken to Lutheran Hospital, and is said to be in stable condition."

and lets not throw the term "accident" around. Who let the 16 year old take the car? A 16 year old not driving well is no accident either.

Dervish Nivokazi, of Dyker Heights, was slapped with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and speeding charges Wednesday after hitting Zak Stanislaw, 65, at a Bensonhurst bus stop Tuesday night, cops said.

Wiley Norvell of Transportation Alternatives said only 29 drivers in New York State have been charged with criminally negligent homicide from 1994 to 2008, despite the thousands of pedestrians and bicyclists who have been killed.

"Drivers who kill are never met with consequences," said Norvell, whose group presses politicians to pass laws that include harsher punishments to drivers.

Stanislaw, who lived about a mile from Nivokazi, was pronounced dead on Bay Ridge Parkway minutes after the 9:20 p.m. crash.

Cops said Nivokazi was speeding in a 2005 Mazda, hit a Toyota and then slammed into Stanislaw.
