You sure it was an explosion? Just one hour later, I heard the same thing....thanks for the 1:45AM thunderstorm, complete with a seeming direct strike.....
I'm on Dean near Carlton.
Anyone else getting tired of this? -
Wasn't it lightning?
-
I think I heard that too. I assumed it was thunder, but it was just one incredibly loud crack? Yeah that was pretty terrifying.
-
i was half asleep when i heard that. it sure sounded like an explosion. but i think it was thunder though.
-
heard it here in PS, two cracks right after the other, with the second being so loud it made me wonder what the eff it was
-
That was so scary! My poor dog almost had a heart attack.
-
i heard it.. thought it was thunder. woke me up out of a half sleep...
-
Forget the dog, I almost had a heart attack! I'm in support of the direct hit theory. I was actually startled away by what seemed like an electric flash right in my bedroom. And then the two big booms. I was still breathing fast after I went to check the other windows.
-
Sorry, I had Mexican last night.
I haven't been able to sit properly since
-
The wife slept through it!
-
God bless you, bourbon, for letting me sleep through the night, oblivious to all noise and deadly explosions.
-
That WAS scary! Totally thought it was an explosion too, but the low rumble I heard after convinced me that it was a clap of thunder.
-
Shot me right out of bed - second time thunder has done that in a week. Wild.
-
All was quiet in my house. But nothing short of a sonic boom will wake me.
-
I was laying on the couch next to the window and was actually about to fall asleep!! Heard the thunder and I was like wtf??AGAIN with this?? It took the sleep away from me. I love the rain but thunder.......scary.
-
apparently i'm the soundest sleeper EVER--on a weird, selective basis. i didn't hear any of this, and i sleep against an outside wall with my head between two windows that don't block out any sound at all. seriously, i can hear someone toss a bottle in the trash at the other end of the block when i'm awake. but two nights ago i shot up in bed because i heard my cat make her "i'm going to puke!" meow from the bathroom.
threecee, the bolt must have been really close to you for it to have been that horrifying. -
i was sound asleep, and it made me shoot straight out of bed with my heart racing. the whole house shook. i was fully expecting to see a smoldering crater outside my window. as all seem to believe, i now think it was a very close direct hit. now i wonder where exactly it did strike.
-
The bolt actually "landed" in front of my house. It was so bright I could see the streak through my very sleeping eyelids and hear the crackle at the sametime. Not an igna second later........BOOM!
-
wow was it ever loud. I just about went straight from the bed through the ceiling.

brokechick, no matter how hard i'm sleeping i can hear the cat honking noise.

Oh yeah, nothing gets your ass out of bed faster than that noise. I guess I'm weird, I like thunderstorms. I especially like sleeping during them but my dumbass dog can't keep her mouth shut when she hears thunder so no sleeping for me.
-
i love thunderstorms, and the cat doesn't generally flip out over them. but she jumped high in the air at this thunderclap, yowza
-
I'm glad I checked this thread because I actually thought I had hallucinated that sound as it was impossibly loud and went on for a long time. Woke right up, scared out of my mind.

i guess any good parent wakes up when the baby cries. O:) my girl is not afraid of thunder, but she waxes so dramatic about the hairballs you'd think she was a classically trained shakespearean hurler.
i love thunderstorms, too, especially with a lot of bright, sharp lightning. i have been known to pull my car over on the side of the road in the middle of them and gaze lovingly at the angry sky. but i would still be irked by one that woke me up in the middle of the night, so my sympathies to everyone who lost sleep to this one.
