unsold apt's
Subject: unsold apt's
whats with all the unsold and vacant apartments in the neighborhood. I was wondering how people would feel about makin a push to have them turn rental. there'e definately a shortage of housing in the city. I've heard that the city has programs to help subsidize rent for lower income families. Don't know too much about it, but helping less fortunate people sounds good to me.Comments

Two things. I'm not sure you can force landlords to rent condos and coops, although this may change if the City Council has its way, and how many people would be amenable to having low income families below Washington Ave.?
-
How, exactly, do you propose that building owners be convinced to convert their for-sale units to rentals? I'm currently hunting for a rental apartment and would love to use this stealthy trick you have up your sleeve.
-
I thought that most of the people that live in this neighborhood were liberal. I figure most people would welcome the opportunity to help a family in need. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe people in this area are only liberal when it's good for them, but I hope not!
-
maybe if you ask *really* nicely
-
I have nothing up my sleeve. I already have a great place. I was just thinking it would be a good idea. Guess you were raised with the "me first" philosophy.
-
Seems to me that more of you would be on board if I wouild have left of the lower income people. WOW Guess I was wrong about peope around here

Welcome to Prospect Heights. The land of hippocrits. "I love everybody, but not when they're my neighbor"
-
right....because after 4 posts you have it all figured out.
-
unfortunately that all it took. Maybe it is better to keep all those apt's vacant, wait for some rich parents to by there kid a co-op.

guess I'm right. people only use insults when they're out of ideas
-
once again, you've figured it all out so quickly. Congratulations!

wait a minute, people who are trying to sell apartments but can't should donate these apartments to families in need? is that the thought here?

You mean insults like "hippocrits"?
Anyways, the vacant units in the neighborhood aren't owned by the Brooklynian Prospect Heights internet forum, so there really isn't anything we can do. Try contacting the actual owners of these units; they are the ones who have the power to make your plan a reality. Good luck! -
I find hopstop's plan very detailed and thoroughly researched with the intent to reach very clear goals.

Underhill_MT's question is overtly aggressive, and shows the "me first" attitude that hopstop has so eloquently argued against.
I don't need any more convincing. Unlock your doors!!! -
I vehemently and without apology oppose any program to bring low-income families into this neighborhood. They bring nothing but grief - trash, noise, unemployment, violence, lethargy, substance abuse, and general dysfunction - all of which would only set the area back 20 years. I will take to the streets if necessary to block this inane liberal crap!

Just FYI, hopstop and joseph11 are posting from the same IP.

Exactly. Clearly I care about no one but myself. Clearly. *snort* Man, I hope I get one of these currently-for-sale-but-soon-to-be-donated-to-low-income-neighbors soon. I'm just waiting to snatch one up for my greedy self.

Would it be spelling or grammar lessons? Discuss! -
Both.

...and they're the only 2 ever to use that IP.
just fyi. -
^^^ Awesome. Next time I want to stir some crap up I think I'll create another profile and propose some ridiculous bs on the boards. Good to know.

I'm all for the "me first" philosophy. If any one wants to give a free condo to me first, that's cool with me. -
How about people go out, get jobs and pay their way like the rest of us? Some of these low income families pass down subsidized apartments from one generation to the next. When are people gonna take responsibility for themselves?
-
A couple of weeks ago there was a story of a guy who built a condo building but it sat empty for almost two years. Since he was losing money, he went to the city and offered them his apts to house the homeless....for a price. So, now the city's paying something like $2700 per month, per apt (these are luxury condos, FYI).
So, there are homeless living in the lap as we speak....better take to the street, Jack! -

I applaud your fantastic use of "rabbiting". Brilliant.
And I totally agree with you.
Howdy, Stranger!
