Goldfish, anyone? — Brooklynian

Goldfish, anyone?

edited November -1 in Brooklyn Pets
We have a small pond in our backyard that is full of goldfish. They don't seem to practice birth control so we have about 20 goldfish of varying sizes in the pond. Most of them are fairly large; in other words, they wouldn't be a good fit for an indoor aquarium but if any Brooklynians have an outdoor pond that needs stocking up, PM me.

  • Jackson and Stella say "YES"....(but I say "no").

How many did you put in there to start?
  • They'll cannibalize each other eventually. Take video.
  • I think there were just a few to start. I can't remember how many my husband got, maybe 4 or 5. He also got a couple of koi, but they couldn't hack it in our hot, sunny backyard.

The winter before last, John was convinced they had all died, but lo and behold! They'd multiplied! We've adopted out a few, and my husband cruelly even offered one in a dish to the cats, but the cats don't care for seafood. So here we are, looking for adoptive parents for freakin' goldfish.

Louie is quite fascinated by them but he learned his lesson when he fell into the pond a couple of months ago. Now he just barks at them while backing up away from them.
  • awww.....louie is scared of the fishies. that's cute
  • Yup..bully breeds = sink like a stone.
  • Yeah, that's one reason why I never let him out in the backyard unsupervised. The second reason being that he desires human companionship at all times!

It totally freaked me out when he fell in the pond. I was sitting there, not 2 feet away from him, and all of a sudden I heard a splash! And there is poor Lou, hanging on the edge of the pool. I had to drag him out and wrap him in a towel.

And yes, Flexi, Louie is scared of the fishies. Perhaps the cats have threatened him that one day he'll sleep with the fishes.l
  • I'm sure some birds will fly by some time and take care of some of the fish, either that or one of the raccoons that live in the neighborhood.
  • I can send my raccoon (Dolores) and her teenager over. Just send the address :-)
  • Yes, I think we need a hit squad. Send over Dolores & Son! Bohuma, our fish are bigger than most of the birds I see around here.
