Carmen's NYC Prep thread — Brooklynian

Carmen's NYC Prep thread

Subject: Carmen's NYC Prep thread

Lets go!

Let me kick this off with a line that I've heard a few times on previews/in the first episode: "Money flows like the wind."

Does the wind flow? Wouldn't water flow more than the wind? And why do these kids talk like a bunch of assholes? "He feels as though he hurt your feelings." I believe I was harped on all through middle and highschools to verbalize your feelings in the most concise/least wordy way. "Feels as though..."? How about "feels like" or, to be accurate in this case, "knows"? I feel like if I had written "feels as though" in any of my college writing classes my professor would have had a grand time with the red pen...
I also like how this chick says she scored in the "top percentile" on her SAT. As in...top 50 percentile? Top 10 percentile? Top 90 percentile?

  • Also, in case anyone cares, this is the school they all go to except that one kid who goes to public school

  • I am not watching it now (saw it last week), but will join at 9

I want to know how the family who lives in the Hamptons leaves their kids in Manhattan 6 days a week.
  • why are all these kids so fugly? And why are the two ones that look identical fighting over that flippyhaired dude?
  • They're lucky it's summer. I'd hang out outside their school just to smack them all in the mouth.
  • I'm not sure the show can be discussed without using "like", "so" and "you know" as every fourth word.

Yes, wind flows. Air is a fluid, and much less viscous than water, so the simile is appropriate. It also connotes the lightness with which he regards money in a way that water does not. In general usage it's common to refer to flowing wind, as in wind flowing through your hair.

Regarding "feels as though", it could be an appropriate use of the subjunctive but I don't remember the context well enough to judge. If the intended meaning was that her feelings were not in fact hurt, but he does feel as though he hurt them, then it was used correctly and hardly approaches prolixity.

But yeah, he totally sounds like a douche nozzle

    much better choice!
  • What's up with the blond (Jesse?) girl's eyes?

And isn't the guy (PC) gay? He looks gay.
  • what is that animal vest she's wearing?
  • Aw, the poor girl is vintage shopping. Wah.

    she's slumming it.

    I wanna cut Sebastian's hair.

    With a hack saw.
  • Have I missed something? What the hell is this thread about - some new ridiculous reality show? Don't you people have anything better to do with your lives??

P.S. BTW, did anyone see Part II of the "Real Housewives of New Jersey Reunion"? Is it me or is Caroline is a bigger piece of work than Danielle. ;-)
  • That PC kid is totally gay! He's gonna come out by the end.
  • why am I not surprised that this kid has a therapist and a psychopharmacologist (sp?)?
  • comfortable with himself = come out of the closet
  • I don't know, but this looks like a petrie dish for left-over yuppy fungus from the 1980's.

Are those creatures the result of when you cross breed the most disgusting by-products of the 1980's? ICK.

Kill them now and sell the salvage-able organs.
I cannot see a purpose for these blood bags.
  • I fell asleep at 8:45 and missed this. Im sure there will be a rerun today...
  • I must be living in a cave but I never heard of this show until this thread. I just watched part of an episode and I am sick....
Why would any parent allow their teen to be filmed like this? All high school kids are kinda dorky, why would any parent let this be on film for all to see-today and 20 years from now when these kids will be (hopefully) totally different people?
Isn't this some kind of child abuse??
    Have people gone completely insane?
  • I seriously doubt they will be totally different. They will be totally spoiled and obnoxious 35+ year olds
  • Friends just left....just in time for NYC Prep. Who's watching?
  • that kid is SO GAY
  • There you are :-)

Yep. Totally gay and his "best friend" (the blond girl) is not kidding anybody when she says she has never thought about being in a relationship with him. It's clear she's totally in love with him (even though he's a major douche)
  • ^^yes! And I think she's the one that said something about how they are more mature than other kids their age. Poor girl has no idea she's attracted to gay guys.

And what about the hairy boy's dad, who is so into and proud of his son's adventures with girls.

    ...I need a life :)
  • Oh, and now I'm rounding it out by watching some of the Duggars. They may have 18 kids but at least they don't seem to be spoiled brats.
  • right now, bitches
  • "public school girls are, like, all emotional and stuff."
  • EVERYONE PUT THIS ON NOW. ITS AMAZING ALREADY. and i will post here alone if no one else joins in...
