150 seats seems like a lot!

  • i hope it is a wonderful restaurant, though it has a terrible name.
  • I think for the style of place they're shooting for (according to the original article linked within the article above) and the "Old Brooklyn" feel they're trying to evoke, the name seems appropriate.

If it's anywhere near as good as Dressler, I will be hella psyched.
  • the name just reminds me of -- is it cheryl's that does this? -- menus etc. about "The Brunch" and "The Dinner"...i find them nearly as unbearable as flatbush farm's "Start It" "End It" titles, which make me want to "regurgitate it."
  • ps, which article? the nyt one i'm looking at just says
THE VANDERBILT Ben Daitz, a partner in Num Pang Sandwich Shop, plans to open this informal place in the fall with Saul Bolton, the chef and owner of Saul in Boerum Hill: 570 Vanderbilt Avenue, Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.
  • this is really exciting news.

saul bolton is only involved with quality.

this is going to be a major deal.
  • Yeah, but it also means it will have Saul's prices, of course with the quality that comes with it. But right now, people are not splurging as much. I went to Saul's for dinner a few months ago and there were only two other tables filled. It was a sloooooow night.
  • I think the neighborhood can support a restaurant of that level. Franny's and James can get close to the same price range with drinks and they seem to be doing great. And Garden Cafe's non-prix-fixe part of the menu was close as well, and they thrived for years before deciding to retire.
  • Beast is non stop busy, and only a little less expensive. (you have to get three entrees for two people because of the portions).
  • i don't think it will be AS expensive as saul.

i think having 150 seats will allow prices to be a bit less.

let's hope so, anyway. let's think positive thoughts till we've seen it. this will be a big boost to the ph restaurant scene.

Absolutely! I hope the rumors are true. I am so excited for this.
