Far happier than one was 7 hours prior. -
Given the service last time I was there, you'll probably only see one or two rounds if you're lucky.

1) Seems like lots of bars have deals on drinks during the day. Perhaps I am mistaken. But perhaps Soda just happens to CALL their day time deals "Happy Hour".
2) Why the EFFIN-HEIMER is a "newspaper" writing about this in the "Money" section? This is as close to an ad as you can get in editorial.
3) I still don't consider Soda a dive bar. Sorry. In my mind, nope.
4) The patron in the picture is a friend of mine. So, yeah, I got that going for me. -
I agree that Soda is not a dive bar. Go to Jackie's or the Irish Haven or Smolen for that.

Great quote from the article: "It's great for people that don't have much money and [have] a lot of time," said Park Slope theater lighting designer Eric Thoben, 41.

What's wrong with a newspaper promoting all-day drinking?
If we're lucky, tomorrow the newspaper will let us know where we can get budget hookers. -
what exactly are you expecting from the Daily News.. i think the reading level of their newspaper is at the 7th grade or something
I hope your not expecting top notch journalism? -

I believe you'll find that they use capital letters and punctuation correctly in that tabloid. They may also have a passing acquaintance with the difference between "your" and "you're."

hey now I'm not the one selling newspapers ..

Is there two bars called Soda? The one I go to has paper in the bathroom, clean glasses, ice cubes and normal operating hours. The bar staff gets you a drink when you ask for it,too weak, too strong they fix it.I never asked for a newspaper or a foot rub while there. Any press, even written at a 7th grade level is helpful to these places. " I had bad service" hurts everybody because you probably left a tip. There are very few things that can go wrong at a good bar that can't be fixed. If your drink sucks or comes too slow say with a smile what you desire. As these places drop out to be replaced by hair salons or store front churches, try asking them for a shot and a beer. Lots of places better and worse than Soda.Help preserve drinking culture

i'm sorry, but i've had almost universally terrible experiences at soda, and if you do a search for it, i know you'll see that i'm not the only one.
it's not the customer's fault they don't say "please stop being a total asshole to me" to the bartender AND the waiter. and at soda, if you did say that, they'd probably throw something at you. it's that bad. -
i have a good time at soda, and love their food, but i've had nights where we've sat an hour before our waitress came back - and with hundreds of people standing all around you, it's not like you can go up to her and ask her for a drink or something - you just flat out don't see her. service is sometimes ok - like in the middle of the day during the week...but fridays/saturdays, its terrible.
it's no dive bar though - it's too CROWDED! I thought dive meant "kinda gross" but mostly that it was the type of place that when you walked in you felt like you had found something most people would have walked right past - a diamond in the rough. soda is always packed, has DJs, good food....no way is this a dive. -
if by dive bar you mean diving into the pit of hell where the staff is too good to serve you more than once per hour, then yes, it is that.
-
I stopped going to Soda long ago. The service has always sucked and there are now plenty of other options in the area.

...the peanut gallery seems to say "less happy" if it was at Soda.
