That Damn Twitter Tab — Brooklynian

That Damn Twitter Tab

So, I hate that new tweetboard / twitter tab on the left side of the page. It obscures texts and images, it doesn't move, it expands obscuring even more of the page, it's an eyesore and it's annoying. If I wanted to go to twitter, I'd go to twitter. That being said, there doesn't appear to be anyway for the user to get rid of it, at least I haven't yet figured it out. It's there solely at the discretion of the site administrator(s), so I thought I'd put it to a vote.

Do you guys like the new tweetboard tab?

  • I voted "no" but I don't feel it adequately expresses my displeasure. How about an option of "About as much as getting my eyelid caught on a nail as I jump off the Empire State Building"?
  • PLEASE MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!!
    Thank you!
  • I rarely see it. (only for a second when I submit a post) I'm on a Mac running on the older version of Firefox. What operating systems do you have and what search engine?
  • I'm on a PC with the most recent edition of Firefox. I don't think the Mac/PC thing should make a difference, since the tab is now embedded into the site. More information on it can be found by either googling tweetboard or 140Ware (the company responsible).

The fact that you're running an older version of firefox may be what's saving you from this annoyance, but the OS has nothing to do with it (I use Windows, for the record). As far as search engine... well, I use mostly Google, but again, this doesn't have anything to do with this damn tab.
  • it is driving me mad. i keep wanting to swat at it like a bug. of course, this is similar to my feeling about twitter generally.
  • Sorry, I misspoke, I mean what browser are you using. ( I was posting and trying to do 2 other things at the same time)
  • WOOHOO! I figured out a way for it to go away!! If you download the Ad-Block Plus add-on (if you're using Firefox) and then right click it, and choose to block everything associated with tweetboard, and then reload the page, it goes away!!! Thank god!

Mamacita - Yeah, I thought asking which search engine was weird... :)
But, for the record, I use Firefox most of the time. I still have IE on my comp, but can't remember the last time I opened it.
  • BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD. ON my ancient Mac on Firefox I cannot get rid of it. I hate it. HATE IT. IT NEEDS TO FOAD.
  • thanks for the feedback. I let the TweetBoard developers know about it.

I just put it up as a test, and I plan to take it down Monday morning.
  • Hooray! Thank you DH!
  • HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE! HATE!

    Make it go away!!!!!
  • do not want!
  • The Tweet box is in an bad place. Needs to be moved somewhere else....
  • Mac, Firefox, NoScript and AdBlocker. = Internet Surfing in Clear Water on Big Waves
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates that thing. As if Twitter doesn't get enough publicity already.
  • Hello all - I'm Juan, creator of TB, I just stumbled upon a twitterfeed link to this thread and stopped by to let you all know that we are currently working on a function that will allow users to “minimize” the tab to a less intrusive (small) graphic at the bottom corner. The good thing is that once you minimize it for one site, it will be minimized for any other TB-enabled site you visit: http://bit.ly/n3Toi

I expect us to roll this feature out with Alpha 2 next Monday.
  • It would be nice if the thing didn't follow me up , down , all around.

    This worked for me.

    THANK YOU!

Twitterboard is now perma-adblocked for me on all sites!
  • Why would anyone find this a necessary part of this site? Even people who like Twitter would have no use for it here.
  • Bugs the carp out of me!

How much carp was in you?

    oh noes!

i'm one of the 4 people who like it... isn't there some way to keep it as an option?
  • HATE HATE HATE. I have left websites, i.e., not ordered from them because of such annoyances.
Guess I'll have to start my own Brooklyninan. lol
  • I installed the adblocker add on.

You have to right-click it (ctrl-click for Mac) and flag it as an ad to be blocked. Or just wait until tomorrow, when it gets taken down.
  • Em - That stinks, I'm sorry...

Instead of right clicking on ad-blocker, try right clicking on the actual twitter tab, and see if an option from ad blocker comes up... if it does, there should be 3 choices: 1 saying to block everything from tweetboard, 1 saying to block somethings from tweetboard, and 1 saying allow everything from tweetboard... Make sure you choose the one to block everything...

If that doesn't work, play with the ad-blocker... Right click on it and try to find something in preferences or if you click on "open blockable items" and see if you can adjust your filter that way...

Also, once you've done it successfully, you'll still have to reload the page to notice. That's what worked for me...

    Hope this helps...
  • Thanks , Carny and Gadmo.

I'm gonna just wait since it's going bye bye tomorrow.
  • It would probably be less annoying to people if you could have it hanging on the right side of the screen instead of the left. That way it is just floating over ads instead of text.

I'm guessing the breakdown of who it bothers and who it doesn't might have to do with everyone's screen resolution. On my netbook with 1024x600 resolution and my crappy work pc with similarly low res the tab is on top of people's names and generally in the way. But on my 22" widescreen display with 1680x1050 res it doesn't come close to interfering with the text (~4 inches out of the way) and doesn't bother me one bit.
  • Maybe, but on my 1440x900 15 inch LCD (MBP), it still annoyed the shit out of me. Even though it didn't block any text.
  • that fifth dimensional window leaves me all the more confused
