Jo, Brian Joseph's Key Food slightly overcharges
Subject: Jo, Brian & Joseph's Key Food slightly overcharges
Beware the slight overcharges at the Key Food on Flatbush. Recently, shelves have been marked with discounts for butter, sour cream and other groceries. Kraft cheese, for example, was $2.00 marked down from $2.30.When I check out, I often don't get the discounts that were tagged on the shelf. It isn't a big deal, a few cents here and there. Still, right now dimes and quarters matter, especially if I buy more of something or buy a different brand to get a discount. I mention the overcharges to the cashiers when I notice them, but often it takes so long to get the manager's attention, really slows it down.
Has anyone else noticed these small over charges at this Key Food?

This happens all the time there. It's not unique to that place though- just about every supermarket does it. They count on most people not checking prices as they get rung up.

Keyfoods on 7th does the same thing often. Bastards.

I noticed this at the Keyfood on 5th in the 40s. I bought a thing of Fabreeze and when I got home, I noticed on the receipt that it was 2/$3.00 (which is an awesome deal). It didn't list that on the display and I was charged full price for the one bottle I bought.

I've noticed this at lots of places.
But worse than that:
Last time I was at that Jo, Brian.... Key Food's I noticed a lot of their cheese selection was pretty moldy (not the kind of mold you want on a cheese either!). Yuck. Then the next morning when I went to make pancakes I noticed the expiration date on the box that I had purchased the day before (about 3 weeks ago now) was from June 2008!
I guess they're spending too much time making they're store look pretty, and not enough time changing over their stock. -

This, too, isn't unique to that Key Foods. I've also had this at Whole Foods! I now check ever date. Yes, it's a pain, but I'm not coming home w/old milk again.

Some of these stores say "with club card" and you will not get the sale price without the discount card.

Stop defending them, Stacey!! :P They're trying to screw us!! (yeah, I have a club card)

The Key Food on 7th Avenue is much worse. You have to memorize every single price of all items. You might as well photograph the prices of everything you buy as you shop to show the clerk at the end.
I try to stick to Fairway and Trader Joe's. Sometime Whole Foods, which has prices now that are similar to Key Food's prices -
In my house were refer to this as being "Keyed". But if we find something that we regularly buy rings up less than it should, we go back and buy more. In the end it probably evens out.
I do enjoy when things dont ring up and dont have a sticker on them. It's a fun game of lets name a price. I have however taken advantage of the situation and scored a few really cheap things. -
A couple months ago I started shopping at Trader Joe's and it has changed my life. I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that I can get almost twice as much there for the same money. Super easy on the 65 bus (across Bergen) or the 71 to 63 (from the Library to 5th ave and then down 5th ave). I am actually *looking forward* to going grocery shopping tonight.
I like JBJ's, but it really is a lot more expensive and please don't even get me started about Natural Land.. that place is just crazy. -

Price wise is Trader Joes cheaper or about the same as say Key Food and Pathmark?

Also being the coupon queen does Trader Joe take coupons (especially computer coupons)? -

Come to the Key Food on 5th and Sterling - clean, efficient and they play the best shopping music! -

I know that TJs is much cheaper on milk than the Key on Flatbush, and my Fage Greek yogurts are $.10 cheaper at TJs than at Natural Land (which is $.20 cheaper than the Key Foods). As far as other stuff goes, I'm not sure.

stacey - I have found it to be a lot cheaper than key food (though I don't know about pathmark b/c i rarely go there). Things like a small box of cereal @ key food that costs about five dollars being priced at 2.99 for the -larger- box at T.J.'s. Also, things like soy milk and frozen food.. Some of the frozen veggie morningstar stuff at T.J.s is 3.79 vs. about 5 dollars @ Key Food. The frozen lasagnas (which I'm pretty sure are made by Amy's) are about 2.50 or 3.00 at TJ's and sometimes 5.19 @ key food.
Re: coupons, I don't think they take them but have a circular that comes out (monthly?) in each state that highlights the specials, etc.. you can get it on their site when the next one comes up, it's called the Flyer.
Yup I'm my mom, apparently. And no, I don't work for Trader Joe's.. just way underemployed and looking for bargains with too much time on my hands. -

Trader Joe's does accept manufacturer's coupons.
