KICK ASS!!!!!

Any word on when the previous carl's place's new owner/operator is going to start opening it up and selling me food? I heard stories earlier about someplace where I could get breakfast right freaking outside, but they seemed to fade away.
Also, regarding the "ghetto" fried chicken places, in DC we always had a rule: the thicker the plexiglass, the tastier the chicken. -
Perhaps it will be "Nail Gazaasm II", since the one and only original was forced out by those gentriconfrontistas, The Home Heating Oil.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking Vietnamese-run nail salon, too. Those tiny women with their child-like fingers really know their stuff.
Plus, it makes no business sense. Why would anyone even think about opening a spa there? Between the greasy Chinese place and all that party-in-a-car action on Underhill, I don't see how any sane person could expect a halfway decent return.
Btw, I also lived at 209 Underhill my first two years in the hood. The people below us used to blast Celine Dion at 3 a.m. Way. Worse. -

wow. not sure if I could prevent projectile vomiting. I'd definitely engage in speakers pointed at floor, metallica full blast retaliation, tho. -

Gah. I wonder if your neighbors moved around the corner. I swear one Sunday morning at 10:30am, my wall neighbor was blasting Lite FM. Made me want to beat them with a sledgehammer. -

I just saw a sign in the window of the old Carl's Place:
everyone's gotta eat; not everyone needs a massage.
"Cheryl's Global Soul Food"
It's advertising cooking classes! Never thought I'd see that on Underhill, but it's kind of cool. I wonder who the target market is. -

My guess is it's gonna be for the white chicks with tatoos who moved here from Iowa. -

there nothing wrong with white girls from Iowa. *mumbles corn feed *hot -
Man, I was really crossing my fingers for a coffee/snacks shop with wifi and a liquor licence. I live on that block, and really could've used an excuse to drink more coffee and not leave my block on the weekends.
Well, there's always the store next door, which is also for rent by the same owner. Here's hoping that the 'spa' doesn't take both storefronts - there are only so many paintable nails in this hood! -
can someone let the prospectors know that there's finally a large (3300sqft) place for rent on washington? it's nice that underhill is gentrifying, but we're still mightily caffeine deprived over here on the other end of the block. said space is currently the daycare between st. john's and lincoln, next to marjorie's other brokerage......

Anyone have any clue when Cheryl's Global Soul Food opens? I saw the signs today, and the food on the pictures looked really good, and the woman in the picture, I assume Cheryl, looked really happy. Maybe she's happy about how good the food is. Does anyone know how long things like this take? I want to try Cheryl's Global Soul Food now! What's she so happy about? I want to know!
Is this the same place someone talked about that was going to be open in the mornings and have like muffins and stuff? It could be- Cheryl looks like the type of woman who makes a mean muffin.
Please, Cheryl, open up soon. And make me some muffins. -
all we need is another gutman

I met Cheryl today - very nice woman. Said that they're on track for opening... uh, shoot... well, it's either in a month and a half or the second half of next month... either way, not too long.

Man - how many new places does that make in the next month or two?!
Many.
I'm gaining weight just thinking about them.

I meant to reply to this eons ago, but I'm almost certain the Crown on the corner of Prospect and Washington used to be a Kennedy. My friend used to live across the street, and I remember the bright sign. -

Of course if forgot about the muffins! How old is this thread?! I'm just happy that I could find it! As far as food, well, we didn't get much more in to it than that she calls it "global" soul food...
After I mentioned that I had recalled hearing about her restaurant online, she said that she would check out the board. Maybe she'll drop in and clarify a little more for us. In any event, I look forward to her restaurant opening soon! -
It appears that the spa place on Underhill between Sterling and St Johns closed. There are for rent signs on both that space and the weird arcade game/jukebox warehouse space.
I wonder what will fill those vacancies... -
I heard the Spa on Underhill will be giving "Gold-leaf enemas" to the people in the Richard Meier Building.
