Subject: st. john's b'twn plaza and underhill
i know there's a lot on this message board about st. john's between underhill and washington, but i'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the next block over (between underhill and plaza). it's seemed safe when i've visited, but i know the area by GAP can be a little deserted. thoughts, anyone?Comments

Jeeeeeeezus. Here we go again. This question needs to be added to the FAQs. It would go something like:
a) don't move here if you're too scared
b) if you do move here, LOCK YOU DOORS CUZ YOU GON DIE.
(p.s. regulars - what else needs to be added?) -
c. walk around on a friday night to see
d. don't be drunk listening to an ipod
e. avoid groups of bored intoxicated youth
f. enjoy ice cream at Blue Marble and beer at sepia -
GAP deserted when? At night? People gotta sleep sometime.
Seriously , that is a nice area. Congrats if you decide to get the place.
Wait! There is this one guy......I hope you like bacon!!

g.) doesn't this thread belong in the non-existent Park Slope North forum?
-
h. you live near the meier bldg, get a cheap set of binoculars.

I live on that block. It's safe. But don't be retarded. Like anywhere.

Corrected to conform:
I. Live on that block. It's safe. But don't be retarded. Like anywhere. -
I think I'm being won over to the scarlett camp.
Whynot, you're gonna get voted off the island! -
Scarlett loves me.
(denial is a great defense) -
GAP itself can be a little deserted at night, but I'm always surprised at how many people are walking on Plaza Street at almost any hour of the day, especially on the stretch between Vanderbilt and St. Johns.
I live on Butler. The area feels pretty safe. Like Carnivore said, just keep your wits about you. -
Been on this clock since '03. If I come home late, I get off at GAP stop and walk on the doorman side of the street. I've been doing that commute since '98 and have never had a problem strolling home in the wee hours of the morning. Other posters are correct, no ipod in your ears and keep your phone in your pocket. You'll be alright.

That was on Washington, not the block the OP asked about. -

Carni's correct, and I do think that there's a big difference between St. John's between Plaza and Underhill and Underhill and Washington. -

What happened on Washington Ave. started on St Johns Pl. It's relevant to the question. -

It didn't start on St Johns Pl between Plaza and Underhill, so again, not the block the OP asked about. -
That block is relatively safe, as always use common sense and follow the tips above, particularly points 'c' through 'f'!

so you don't think the OP would care because it's one block over? -

Reading comprehension FTW! -
there was a murder there two days ago FTW

No there wasn't. You fail again. There was a murder on a different block. There have been several murders on that block over the past few years, but there have been none between Underhill and Plaza. What the OP recognizes, but what somehow eludes you is that the two blocks are extremely different in terms of safety. -

Yeah, that's the 80's junkie context, not the 00's Internet context.

And compass alignment. The kink at Underhill ensures that a high-powered rifle or assault weapon on the badass block couldn't take out anyone beyond the first building on the North side of the nicefolks block. -
i was talking about the murders on washington and st. johns. i know where they were.
forgive me and anyone else for thinking that this poster MIGHT be interested in murders that occurred one block over.
keep regulating. -

...maybe brooklyn back when, with one giant thread, is the way to go.

BIG DIFFERENCE! For good, bad or ugly...the block of St.J's between Underhill and Plaza is quite nearly 100% gentrified and has been for nearly 10 years or so. To be honest, I prefer the block between Under/Wash because there are people who live a good part of their life out on the block, not locked up in their apts. on the internet. Nice people on both blocks though.
